Springs bouncy? What's stock rate?

Hey y'all!

'01 Intrigue here....

I thought new shocks would take care of the bouncy ride, but only helped a very slight bit.

So, stock springs can wear out over time, correct? And create a bouncy ride? Anyone know the stock spring rate?

As you guys probably already know, the Intrigue has somewhat limited info out there.

Worn springs don't cause excessive bouncing. Springs sag as they age, but the spring rate doesn't really change from when they were new. In fact all springs no matter how hard would bounce very excessively if it wasn't for shocks. Dampening spring oscillations is solely their job. If you replaced all four of them, it might be caused by tires (I found out weak sidewalls cause this too), or you have unreal expectations for a stock suspension.

Thanks jman! That was really the information I was looking for!

I had replaced all 4 shocks with Monroe SensaTracs. And almost right away was not impressed with the still too bouncy, too luxurious ride. Drove a few thousands miles, needed new tires... so now have new tires and the ride is certainly not improved. Comparing to 8k ago when I put them in, it seems even much worse: ie shocks wore out even more I suppose...

Maybe just got a bad batch of shocks?!?!

Or you just got SensaTracs, I rarely hear anything good about them. Most people say they're too bouncy and junk. Most members here would recommend KYBs, much nicer, stiffer ride. Slightly harsh if you live in a big city with lots of pot holes.

Arrrrggg!!!

Wish I would have known! Well, a quick search shows an ebay seller with KYB's for $208 and free shipping for the correct/same part numbers that I found searching tirerack also. Anyone want to help me change them again?

I think I need the camber bolts as well, since the car sags a little bit, the rear wheels are not perfectly up/down/cambered correctly. Very typically I see on the w-cars around. Plus, last time I was in getting my alignment, the tech explained he set it the farthest he could towards correction but still not not in perfect specs. ---- Then as a side note said he's drilled/elongated the bolt holes to shift and make his own camber adjustments. Anyone done that?

I have KYB GR2's in my Grand Prix. Like it has been said, it is a lot stiffer. I have Monroe quick struts (comes with everything attatched and they come with the Sensa tracks, and I LOVE them in my Buick Regal. But the ride is much more softer, which I prefer for my daily driver.
