xtremerevolution
Just figured I'd post this reference. This is the second time I had replaced the two lower engine mounts since I bought the car. I had replaced the engine torque mount at least 6 times, one of which was polyurethane that lasted no longer than the regular rubber usually does. What a new engine mount looks like. What my engine mount looked like. Notice how its actually broken, not just worn. Pics of work... Word of advice to anyone planning on changing engine mounts: remember to remove the engine torque mounts before you try to lift up the engine from underneath. I would have taken pictures of the rear engine mount process, but I didn't have much space to move around in there, let alone take pictures. The rear engine mount definitely takes some time. GM definitely could have put in stronger engine mounts on an engine that pulls 225 ft-lb of torque. Now I just need to figure out if I should replace the transmission mount. Crazy K
That appears to be the same mount that the 3.4 engine got. I have actually been thinking.... that if I ever built a capable 3.1 anything.... that the 3.4 type mounts might be better... I think I read that you could physically go back and forth but there was no point to....
xtremerevolution
I figure I'll resurrect this because I'm annoyed. Thursday night I heard a grinding noise while accelerating hard. I went home, lifted up my car, and found that my front engine mount was broken in half, again. What was that, 10 months? Within the last 12 months, I went through 2 lower front engine mounts and 3 torque mounts. The first time I replaced the front lower mount, I replaced the rear mount as well for good measure as one of those "while I'm under the car" things. The trans mount is still in great shape. Any ideas? I'd love to find a way to strengthen the engine mounting on my car so I don't rip through mounts every half a year. I can get a picture of the broken mount if someone really wants to see it.
BXX
Go buy a quality engine mount that isnt made in China or made in the US by illegal mexicans in a californian sweat show?? Head to your nearest dealer and get them from GM. And 225ftlb isnt why they are breaking. Fuck, the Impala sitting out in my driveway makes that much and hasnt broke a damn mount. Its just the cheap mounts you keep buying.
xtremerevolution
The last mount was by anchor, the only brand available on rockauto at the time. This last one is a lifetime auto zone brand
terryk2003
My car was putting down 300+ ft lbs to the front wheels and hasn't broken a mount yet...maybe the 2nd gens got better mounts?...or maybe like bob said the factory mounts are better? RobertISaar
too much engine movement? maybe you need to make some sort of limiter for the bottom if the top isn't moving a lot...
BXX
The last mount was by anchor, the only brand available on rockauto at the time. This last one is a lifetime auto zone brand Get a dealer mount. Replace them all at the same time. If you replace one and another allows for too much movement (i.e. a little weak) it will put too much strain on the new one or others. You obviously keep breaking aftermarket mounts, so I think your best bet for longevity is dealer ones.
