Guest TurboSedan
i've decided today to take a month off of work and move back up to Gillette, WY (for a month or so), which is where my TGP engine is sitting waiting for me to start resealing it, and cleaning the hell out of it. updates on my webpage & many questions to come! i'm also going to go pick up another Getrag 282 i found in Buffalo, WY. they want $320 for EVERYTHING (pedals, shifter, cables, hydraulics, axles etc.). i only need the trans itself, so i'm hoping i can get just that for maybe $250....or heck i might just get it all..... joshua (finally have money to start)
mfewtrail
looks like castrol super degreaser(the purple shit) is going to become your new best friend on the TGP engine ..works better than simple green, just dilute it a bit or it fades the aluminum casting slightly...good luck, and keep us updated! Guest TurboSedan
yeah, it's dirty as hell that's for sure, but only has 111,xxx miles. to be honest i've never heard the engine run, but since finding a TGP engine for $350 is a pretty good deal and it included the radiator, IC and everything else, i figured i'd chance it. besides i'd probably never get the chance to find another complete TGP engine locally. the oil was pretty dirty but didn't have any coolant or anything else in it. i checked the plugs and the front 3 were very very worn but no signs of detonation and they weren't oily or anything. the rear three were practically brand new, but were for a n/a 3.1 :? the turbo went bad on the previous owner (the turbo was gone when i bought the engine but i've already found another good one with very little shaft play), who then abandoned the car & defaulted on his loan (whew!). so it ended up getting hauled to the salvage yard. pics of the donor car are on my website. here is a list of what it will be getting before it goes into the car: - custom turbo support bracket - custom chip (for use w/5-speed) - K&N cone air filter - Melling HV134 oil pump - GM auxillary oil cooler kit - new fuel injectors (not sure which yet) - A/F gauge - Boost gauge - ARP head bolts - Fel-Pro gaskets: - both heads - both exhaust manifolds - lower intake - both valve covers - plenum - throttle body - oil pan - timing cover - oil pump driveshaft O-ring seal - front crank seal in timing cover and the Getrag 282 i'm getting will only get new axle seals and a GM syncromesh flush and new clutch. i'm still not sure which clutch i'm going to get but i don't want to spend an arm & a leg..... btw, does Fel-Pro make good gaskets? in particular the head gaskets? any recommendations or suggestions welcome. i'm really looking forward to this project i've decided to fix my CS before my GTS - i just miss my CS alot. joshua

Guest TurboSedan
Whoa! you're from Gillette!? i thought Tim G, iTurbo (my brother) and i were the only ones here from Gillette..... and i've seen your car! very nice! maybe you can stop by and check out my work in progress sometime and i can check out your ride. i still need to tow dolly the car up to Gillette soon cuz the turbo engine and trans are up there (it's dead in Laramie right now). anyway, i'm actually leaving for Gillette in about an hour or two so i'll be there today. i'm driving iTurbo's bright red Shelby Lancer right now and i'll race you in that tho....or wait....it's my brother's car....i better not. joshua
