Intake Gasket

the dorman improved upper intake kit from rockauto.com is the cheapest i've found so far. i've used it once and had great results, as have many others.

if you're pulling the uim, i'd pull the lim and do those gaskets too. don't underestimate how bad they can be. the ones on my fiance's sister's 96 regal with 110k were pretty jacked up.

if you pull the lim, go ahead and replace the coolant crossover fitting, as it will crack eventually. you should also port the lim, as there are huge gains to be made on an L36, and its a pretty easy job. the lims on the L36 are pretty badly machined.

Well, this is mainly a DD and I cant have it down for very long so the porting is probably not going to happen... Pulling the LIM is alot more in depth than doing the upper isnt it? I have an 800 mile road trip home I am doing next week so I need to do this over night basically

pulling the lim is extremely easy once you get the upper intake off.

porting will take you an hour per hole, so take that as you will. the whole job took me 10 hours the first time I did it, and 12 hours the second time with manifold porting. its doable if you take it one step at a time. I can post pictures of my two jobs if you want so you know what to expect.

Do you have a write up done? Cause you are doing it to the Jag right?

I don't have a writeup, but I followed the instructions in my haynes manual and it was pretty simple. The only thing you have to remember is to search all of the valleys in the LIM as there will be some bolts hidden by the oil.

The Jag uses a completely different intake system. There actually isn't a lower intake manifold, as there are two manifolds (one for each bank) that bolt up directly to the heads.

The first thread was my 95 L27 Series 1 3800, which had 188k miles on it when this job was done. My LIM gaskets looked a LOT better than the ones on my fiance's sister's 96 L36 Series 2 3800, which had 110k miles on it when this job was done, which is why I'm trying to stress that you get that done as well if you're pulling the UIM. At that point its a "while you're at it" deal that you port the LIM, since its very horribly machined from factory. I'm sure that even as a daily driver you would appreciate the added power and presumably added fuel economy. The engine will just breathe a lot better. You'll see what I mean when you get those off. You're looking at 45 minutes of time per port if you take your time and do a thorough job of it.
