Serious Trans work needed?

I was driving Christine (my 93 Z34 Lumina) this morning. I was stopped at a stop sign and as I pulled away, with my foot still on the pedal) I lost all acceleration. The engine continued to run but I lost all acceleration. So I coasted down about three blocks to the first light, which was red with one car in front of mine. As I waited for the light to turn green I smelled transmission fluid. I didn't think much of it, but when the light turned green my car just sat there revving her engine. I tried all the gears and none worked. I quickly got out to push the car out of the way of traffic. After I got the car situated in a good spot, I turned to see a big puddle of trans fluid on the street. As I walked and retraced my steps, I came to notice that I started to leak back at the stop sign that was a about three blocks away. Which showed a small puddle with a trailing leak to the light where the trans gave out completely.

so what am I looking at here? I haven't had a chance to look the car over since I missed two hours of work and had to stay late to make it up. Is it just a hose/line from the trans to a radiator? Any help would be great. Thanks all!

After the car stopped accelerating, I just coasted the three blocks, I didn't rev the engine. Not till the light turned green when I pushed the car. I drove it about six blocks before that happeaned at the stop sign, then about three blocks after that till I pushed it into a parking spot.

I think once you fix the leak (probably a cooling line), and put some fluid in it, you will be fine. GM transmissions are pretty decent, and it sounds like you caught it in time.

Could be as simple as a pan gasket, at least that's what was up with my Euro when I first got it. I was young and niave: couldn't figure out why it would always shift in and out of overdrive and when it felt like I was driving like a gramma under normal throttle levels. Low and behold, puddles everywhere. Your tranny probably isn't toast, hopefully. It probably just smoked some clutches for awhile, but should still work, pending if it just sprung a leak.

Well Saturday came out to be a great day, weather is so so. With a couple short light rain showers while working on Christine today i found the problem. It was the cooling line. The clamp must have been loose for some time now. The rubber hose was just off the steel line nipple directly behind/under the radiator. For the time being, I am only remounting the hose and re-clamping it. I spoke to my mechanic and he will be replacing the lines next week for me. I filled the trans with 5 quarts of fluid and added as needed to fill the trans properly; about 6 guarts. I ran the car idle and then drove it around the block. Everything seemed to be as good as it was two days ago. I tapped my fluids and wiped the undercarriage clean, which is covered in fluid.

Total was about $40 for fluid and some needed oil, plus the cost to go the my dads to borrow his heavy duty jack.

Thanks for the help. The wife says she needs to yell at you guys, she wants the car gone... and she helped. thanks again.
