karrkrazzie
I am looking to upgrade all of the brakes on my car, would like to do drilled/ slotted rotors, good pads, and better calipers. Would like rust proof rotors, and calipers that will look good. So i am looking at the kit on http://www.3800performance.com, is there anything else I need to buy, and what size of rotors do i need. any other kit reccomendations would be cool too. would like to stay under 700$ for the total project though
intern8tion9l
search. r1 concepts on eBay comes highly recommended
Andrew
that kit is for 2nd gens, it wont fit your 1.5 gen. but yeah R1 concepts have good reviews from members here. you cant go wrong with Hawk, or EBC pads. and just paint your calipers and brackets. black is best IMO because its subtle. also check out summit's catalog. they have some other pad/rotor options as well. Andrew
also, i would recommend slotted, and/or dimpled. not cross drilled. i have heard too many conflicting things about the integrity of cross drilled rotors, so play it safe. http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=EBC-GD7075&N=700+4294922533+4294924667+4294908216+4294907614+4294859634+115&autoview=sku http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=EBC-GD7011&N=700+4294922533+4294924667+4294908216+4294907614+4294859634+115&autoview=sku please note, those prices are for 2 rotors. karrkrazzie
thanks guys... so i like those rotors from summit, and was looking at them to, because they are black zinc plated, they will be rust proof, right??? And then I assume just buy calipers from like autozone and paint them right away, black was my thought too. And I have no idea what to get for pads.... ceramic, semimetallic, kevlar, what is the difference and what do you recommend?
Euro
Yeah if they're black zinc plated then they won't rust. I'd go with those EBC rotors. R1 rotors are junk IMO. They look great, and worked ok...but ate away any kind of pad I put on them....lets just say you get what you paid for, and if I had to buy drilled/slotted rotors again I'd power PowerStop or EBC for my car. And ceramic pads!!

And ceramic pads!! Any slotted rotors will eat away at your pads. That's a simple fact, and eating away at the pads is half the purpose for the slots anyway, so you always have a clean pad in contact with your rotor. If you don't want them to wear out your pads, then specifically ask for only drilled when you place your order with them. You do have that option. Any zinc coated rotor will eventually rust, guaranteed. I have R1 concepts rotors on my Bonneville and have installed 6 pairs of them so far and everyone I've ever installed them for has been very impressed. I have the PowerStop drilled rotors on my Regal, and those rusted up real nice in the 3.5 years I've had them so far. I spent a good hour yesterday re-drilling through the rust on the holes and chipping off the rust on the edges with a hammer. Last time I tried to order EBC rotors for my Regal from Summit Racing, they called back after 3 weeks to tell me that they're on backorder for another 2 weeks. That was the end of EBC for me. Euro
I figured they would have a more significant pad wear because they're drilled, but I put these brakes on in early August...or probably 5k miles ago...and I've gone through 2 sets of pads already on the front, 1 on the rear. And they desperately need to be done again, all 4 grind and squeal. Maybe I just had shitty experience with this company. But I'm tossing these damn rotors in the fucking garbage soon

But I'm tossing these damn rotors in the fucking garbage soon Mine are drilled & slotted and I have 5k miles on the pads and they're still good with at least half the pads left. I did buy premium ceramic pads though ($50 retail for each set). With these on, the 3700lb Bonneville GXP stops on a dime. Its unlike anything I've ever felt before, and they don't fade or burn like the smoke I smell when I push the ones on my Regal. I've pushed the brakes on this car to points you couldn't imagine, so I'm not surprised that I've gone through half the pads already. Euro
Yeah all I've done is just your normal braking. Glad you're having good luck with them. I'm just going with the 12" upgrade with zinc coated blanks and calling it a day.

I'm just going with the 12" upgrade with zinc coated blanks and calling it a day. What kind of pads were you using? the both fronts sets were ceramics, and the rotors came with cheap metallic pads. And that's what's on the rears. The cheap pads have lasted longer than both ceramic sets! haha
AL
Thats cause the rear only does 15% of the stopping, while the front does 85%
Euro
yeah, I know.. I just don't get why I've gone through 2 sets of pads in 5,000 miles of normal braking.
