kuntzie
my 2001 Gt, the input shaft took a shit today on 17# of boost, yah fuck, anyways im looking for pros and cons of doing this swap (i have ALL the parts ready to go) i dont want to hear answers like " do it" or "that would be sweet" for reference my car dynoed 418whp before so the numbers would be there or higher when i am done. and no one has done this as far as i know (3.8 turbo+ 5-speed) i would be using a getrag 284 from a 1992 gtp
jeremy
cons: the w-body getrag transmission felt "primative" to me....they seemed rather crude and unrefined...I am not sure I would want to daily drive one.....another con, iirc is that the 284 is not rebuildable, so if you blow it up that trans is done
Addicted To Boost
You can probably build up the 4T65 stronger than the 284 anyway.
sl3196
do it, that would be sweet
White93z34
Only large gripe I have with it is the location of the oil filter, and that it has to be put elsewhere. I am told that the stock oil pump generally does not like that too much.
Crazy K
Didn't the guy with the red cutlass coupe in Maine have a turbo+supercharger pushing a 5 speed? MIKO K?
White93z34
Miko has done it, as have many others, but I know getting proper oil PSI can be a pain to do and kinda playing with fire.
gpchris
Actually people dont give the manual trannies enough credit. The internals are solid.. the things that like to break on them are the axles, differentials and cases.. Axles can be upgraded, diff can be upgraded and if you just mount it in the front and back instead of using the one side mount the case wont break.. Do that and you can run 500hp without problems.. But when you really think about it why are building a fwd family car to have 500hp? Other than drag racing its just not necessary.. And if your drag racing get and automatic they shift much much faster.
kuntzie
the car already has the HP, it blew/ sheared the input shaft a trans job to hold power for a while is around 2500-3000 (canadian) and i can get a clutch for 725 or 900 (canadian) to hold 650 ftlbs at the crank and still retain stock feel (the $900 one is a full street, the 715 is a 6puck) i have all the other parts to do the swap already
