spiderw31
Well after WAAAAYYYYY too long, the Paperweight lives again! She is finally running after pitching the timing belt and tweaking a couple valves. Got the finishing touches put on today, and started her up. Cranked a little bit, required two turns of the key to get proper fuel pressure, but fired right up right after that. After running a few minutes to get the lifters all pressurized, the motor rune REAL smooth and quiet. No odd sounds, no misfiring, and the timing feels right on. Only issues are a bit of an oil leak somewhere on the rear bank causing a lot of smoke. Probably pinched a gasket on the cam cover. Also, the timing belt cover is cracked, and I think it's rubbing on one of the idler pulleys causing a bit of a howling off idle. All in all I'm pretty happy though! spiderw31
Now you can actually enjoy the car Yeah lets just hope it can manage to go more than 300 miles at a time without breaking down! That car has definitely earned the name of Paperweight I'm even contemplating custom tags! Glad to hear it man! *Almost* my car's twin! Yeah... just with a t-belt, and a slightly less indestructible motor

White93z34
FINALLY! Glad to see you stuck with it and got it going again. Also does your timing belt make a weird howling/gear noise right now? mine did right after a change for about a days worth of driving then sounded fine again. spiderw31
FINALLY! Glad to see you stuck with it and got it going again. Also does your timing belt make a weird howling/gear noise right now? mine did right after a change for about a days worth of driving then sounded fine again. When the motor is cold, the belt sounds normal. As the car warms up though, then there's the howl that comes out of the belt area if I rev it up a bit. It gets much louder when I pull off the inspection cover on the front bank. It sounds almost like one of the idler pulleys is rubbing the belt cover, or like one of one of the bearings on one of the pulleys is screaming. I plan on pulling the cover just to be sure, but I'm guessing the belt needs to bed in, and the pulley bearings need to break in a bit?
