cperna15
Hello, my car ran out of gas last night and i filled it up and it wont start. some times it will start up and then it will shut off. its not a ignition problem with the vats or anything like that. when i opened the hood i noticed the fuel pump relay doesnt click on anymore so i got a new one and the same problem. so then i was squirting gas in the intake and it was running until i shut it off. any ideas? Crazy K
hmmm. when you run a car out of gas, you can destroy the pump. If you remove the cap on the fuel rail, and carefully press the valve inside, does fuel spurt out? surround it with a rag to absorb any spill and don't shoot yourself in the eye! cperna15
so when i check for that what does that mean, like if no gas comes out or if gas does come out
Crazy K
it is the Schrader valve on the fuel rail. so it should be holding pressure if all is good. FYI the pump only is on for 2 seconds to prime when you first try to start the car, then it is on once the car is running. no running = no pumping = relay appears no to apply. since you have an old relay, remove it's cover, and manually push it to operate. what happens? for a pump, I think a DELPHI or a BOSCH would be good choices. "ebay pumps" = AVOID
cperna15
i took the cover off the relay and did that...and then nothing so what do you think now? im having the worse luck with this car and ive been dumping so much money into it and i still refuse to get rid of it. Crazy K
pump. shop around and get a deal. try rockauto.com, plus search for a "rockauto discount" and you cen get 5% off. get a BOSCH or DELPHI from them. TRY Advanced Auto too. heard (but haven't checked) that they had the delphi pump for a few bucks more that rockauto... Don't buy MASTER, or cheap e-bay chinese knock offs. I have a screamer in one car cause of that. and supposedly AC DELCO fuel pumps are no good now. cars cost money. Try to spend it wisely. cperna15
okay so i cannot find the Schrader valve so is there any other wat to check the fuel pump. i was thinking of droping the tank to see if im getting power to the pump but im trying to avoid that if possiable unless i deff need to replace the pump so are there any other ways of testing it? White93z34
you should have a single wire lead right near your AUX post put that to the AUX post and you should hear the pump run. also the schrader is on the fuel rail. look around and you should find it it might have a metal cap over it,
cperna15
how do i know what wire it is?
cperna15
okay so i connected that wire to the aux and nothing....so im guessing its the fuel pump. i hope i can cut a access hole under the rear seat

RobertISaar
as implied by crazy K, don't cut a damn hole above your gas tank. fuel vapor plus sparks equals a whole lot of trouble. and dropping the tank isn't that bad, as long as there isn't that much fuel in it. White93z34
coming from someone who has dropped FIVE w-body tanks in the past 6 months now, it isn't so bad. even if they are totally full.
Crazy K
Don't get me wrong... if a well placed hole was made and a SEALABLE hatch was added... I'd be all for it. but you are gonna NOT find it if you cut a hole!
cperna15
well is there a writeup on how to drop the tank? i had the haynes maniual but i killed it when i replaced my trans....so i just ordered the shop maniual for 50 on ebay but i cant wait that long for it to come in
cperna15
fixed the car, runs so much better then ever....... so when i dropped the tank i cut an access hole and then went to the junk yard and cut a peice of the trunk floor that was 2 inches bugger than the hole incase the pump goes again...i ended up urathaining it into place, then screwing it down....very happy with the outcome
