dodgethis
I really wonder if my fuel pump is giving me issues. I have started to notice that sometimes when i turn the key over and I wait for the fuel pump to prime it has a weird noise coming from it. It almost sounds like its straining real hard. I have already replaced the fuel filter about 3,000 miles ago. She has 71,000 on her right now. I saw Crazy K had mentioned that if the transmission does stutter it can be from the fuel pump. I will say this that it does not do this constantly like in every time when i start the car, but its slowly starting to become an everyday occurrence. I have posted a while back where every time when i start the car at cold (even when the Temp outside is around 45-50 degree F) I will prime the car once but I still have to have the foot on the pedal just barely for it to fire other wise it will take about 5 seconds for it to crank over. I checked the fuel pressure regulator and there is no gas in the top vacuum line so I don't think that's culprit. To better describe the Fuel pump sound its sometime gives that weird noise like someone has laryngitis. I mean its not that clean electrical priming noise, its like muffled or something. I hope that makes since. 3100 sfi engine block
jtwmechanic
not that your pump may be going out, but when is the last time you tuned it up and try to get a fuel pressure guage and test the pressure of the system. you need to test instant pressure and do a leakdown test too. jtwmechanic
oh yeah the pressure should be approximately 38-41 psi
Crazy K
Possible. Later on in the heat of summer this same car would develop vapor lock if you tried to re-start it while hot. but some fuel pump noise is always normal... and even a noisy pump might function within specs. start at the beginning. tuneup! plugs, other filters and make sure you are tip top shape. and get your fuel pressure measured. dodgethis
Hey stupid question guys but bear with me. What kind of guage can I get? I am just looking for one that is simple stupid and gets the job done. I have looked at oreilys, autozone, and autoparts. They are all asking $90 dollars for a kit. I am just wanting the guage and the line that will hook to the schrader valve. Any thoughts?
