dumb question

Theres no such thing as a dumb question, just dumb people.

But seriously I'd run around 30-32 right now. As the temperature warms up with spring here, the air will expand slightly putting you closer to 35 psi.

run what is listed on the tire. door sticker list the pressure for the stock brand of tire. my 18's on my 95 cutlass are rated for 51 psi. but for 16's between 32 and 36 should be fine.

Actually, that's not totally true... Don't go by the pressure on the side wall because it is a generic pressure for that tire, it does not take into account the vehicle weight because when the tire is made there is no particular vehicle it is designed for, just a very broad feild. That being said you don't want to go over the psi listed on the tire, because it is not designed to take pressures higher than that listed.

The 245/45/16 tires Matt and I just got for the GTP and TGP are rated at MAX 51 psi, but we are running 35 psi... 51 would destroy those tires in a 3500 pound car.

Thats what the root cause was for all the Ford Explorer rollovers. Ford's door sticker had the Firestones underinflated to improve the ride. The tires were overheating and blowing out causing rollovers.

Those pressures listed on the sidewall of the tire is the maximum pressure that tire can handle before getting dangerous. A normal rubber valve stem or chrome valve stem is only rated to hold 40psi max. And always try to check your air pressure when the tire is cold, as it will get about 5psi or so when the tire gets warm.
