SrMichi Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 this is a dumb question but what should my tire pressure be? i change my tires from 215/60R16 to 225/60R16. Quote
Regal_GS_1989 Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 Door sticker says that they should be around 30. I have mine set around 36 right now and I much prefer it to having them at 30. Quote
GOT2B GM Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 Theres no such thing as a dumb question, just dumb people. But seriously I'd run around 30-32 right now. As the temperature warms up with spring here, the air will expand slightly putting you closer to 35 psi. Quote
SrMichi Posted April 7, 2009 Author Report Posted April 7, 2009 i have 32 psi but i thought since i got wider tires maybe i had to put a tad more air Quote
Addicted To Boost Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 32 is just fine. The door sticker says 30 PSI for 225/60/16 tires, and I usually run 32. Quote
slick Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 I keep mine around 36 psi. Makes the contact patch on the cement just a tad skinnier, for better gas mileage. On the Firebird, I keep it at 30. Quote
jtwmechanic Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 run what is listed on the tire. door sticker list the pressure for the stock brand of tire. my 18's on my 95 cutlass are rated for 51 psi. but for 16's between 32 and 36 should be fine. Quote
carkhz316 Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 But nonetheless, check pressure regularly, as the average tire loses about 1psi a month, or so I have been told. Quote
Euro Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 I kept the tires in the Lumina at around 32-33. The GP is at 35 all around for mpg's! Quote
CSI_MuNkY Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 run what is listed on the tire. door sticker list the pressure for the stock brand of tire. my 18's on my 95 cutlass are rated for 51 psi. but for 16's between 32 and 36 should be fine. Actually, that's not totally true... Don't go by the pressure on the side wall because it is a generic pressure for that tire, it does not take into account the vehicle weight because when the tire is made there is no particular vehicle it is designed for, just a very broad feild. That being said you don't want to go over the psi listed on the tire, because it is not designed to take pressures higher than that listed. The 245/45/16 tires Matt and I just got for the GTP and TGP are rated at MAX 51 psi, but we are running 35 psi... 51 would destroy those tires in a 3500 pound car. Jamie Quote
GOT2B GM Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 Thats what the root cause was for all the Ford Explorer rollovers. Ford's door sticker had the Firestones underinflated to improve the ride. The tires were overheating and blowing out causing rollovers. Quote
SrMichi Posted April 8, 2009 Author Report Posted April 8, 2009 very well then i will put it and leave it at 34 psi try to see if my mileage improves cause god dammit I'm still getting 15mpg :flamingdevil: and ty for so many responds Quote
mediabandit Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 So, on my Z34 i am running 235/50/17 what is the right pressure for those? Quote
cutty Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 run what is listed on the tire. door sticker list the pressure for the stock brand of tire. my 18's on my 95 cutlass are rated for 51 psi. but for 16's between 32 and 36 should be fine. Those pressures listed on the sidewall of the tire is the maximum pressure that tire can handle before getting dangerous. A normal rubber valve stem or chrome valve stem is only rated to hold 40psi max. And always try to check your air pressure when the tire is cold, as it will get about 5psi or so when the tire gets warm. Quote
SrMichi Posted April 8, 2009 Author Report Posted April 8, 2009 So, on my Z34 i am running 235/50/17 what is the right pressure for those? Like Crazy K Signature says the answer IS 42. Quote
