GPdriver1986 Posted August 30, 2003 Report Posted August 30, 2003 I had an oil leak this whole time and I didn't even notice that it was coming from the oil drain plug. I even took the time to change the o-ring. I replaced the drain plug a few days ago when I did an oil change. I used a good drain plug that we saved from our old 2.8 Corsica. When I took out the old drain plug on the GP I noticed that the thread on the plug was kinda striped. So I put the new drain plug on and it went in ok but kinda had a hard time putting it in. It wasn't leaking oil for about 2 days now its started leaking oil again. I think its either the thread on the oil pan or its not tight enough. This whole thing explains why I only leaked oil from the engine when it was cold. Any opinions? Quote
Redfox340 Posted August 30, 2003 Report Posted August 30, 2003 Find a OEM replacement plug from either Autozone, etc. I forget the exact dimensions it's know as a Chevy corse plug. If that doesn't work, you'll have to tap the pan and put in a oversized drain plug. After seeing tons of oil pans @ Grease Monkey, some people just love to wrench on those bastards... yeesh... - Erik Quote
GPdriver1986 Posted August 30, 2003 Author Report Posted August 30, 2003 From what I know the oil was changed every 5k km at the Crappy Tire. I went to crappy tire to check for drain plugs, I noticed that the 2.8/3.1 uses the same drain plug. Quote
GRANDFURY Posted August 30, 2003 Report Posted August 30, 2003 I had the same problem, bought a new oe plug and o-ring and mine still leaks too. I think you're right I took the car to Q-lube once and they just cranked on the plug and filter :x bastards, now I think I have a small crack in the pan it self. I'm going to try some JB weld for a quick fix. Quote
GPdriver1986 Posted August 30, 2003 Author Report Posted August 30, 2003 The real world sucks, I'm 17 and I wouldn't trust anyone to change my oil, maybe dealership thats it. Most of these places (10 min oil change) don't care about your car and overtighten everything. Should I use a tap and die set to redo the thread????????????????? Quote
Redfox340 Posted August 30, 2003 Report Posted August 30, 2003 Should I use a tap and die set to redo the thread??? Yeah, if a new OEM corse plug doesn't work out, gently tap the pan. Make sure after taping that you flush a quart of oil through the open oil crankcase. - Erik Quote
