AWeb80
took forever to cut the engine mount to give me clearance for the pipe. .....oh, and my welding is a tad bit better.... ....hey! at least it won't leak A mock-up of what I might do for the next step........ AWeb80
I've got a couple different ideas..... the rear manifold to the x-over to the DP connection is gonna SUCK to make though......
RobertISaar
thats some nice, thick tubing. wheres it from?

slick
Myself, I would probably try to do something like I made up quickly in Paint. Maybe it's because there is only 1 photo of the second mockup, but I'd more of an angle on it. Basically, your going to want the exhaust to come out into a pipe and turn down and into the log, instead of basically straight into it. AWeb80
I understand that Chris...I'm still mocking stuff up. the way I have it, it will be angled into the log right now. It's at a 45* angle, the pic just doesn't show it very good
slick
Ah... Ok. Yeah, I'd definately like to see more pictures! Have a tubulur crossover, instead of the pinched up one, is surely going to help as well. Combining the rear manifold to the crossover on the front, I would try to combine them as they are going down towards the downpipe. IIRC, there should be enough room, but it's going to take some skills to get it to fit. If I were you, while it's all out, I'd massage the firewall just a bit for a bit more room. A big hammer should do the trick.
AWeb80
Yep, all part of the plan. I'm going to center the DP off the manifold so I don't have to angle it like the stock one. Dumb set up...
slick
Sounds like you have some good thought into it. Anyone local helping you out with the design?
AWeb80
Nobody local. Just me. I may have my bro weld for me since he is better. I burned through the pipe once....LOL had to fix that...That's wha the glob of weld is on the top pic
jtwmechanic
hey, that's what a grinder is for lol.
AWeb80
UPDATE I was going to tie the Log part into it later, but I think this will work best. I had to fit a 1 5/8" pipe into a 1.88" ID tube, so I had to fill in the gap w/ weld. Now to get the other 2 primaries fabbed up and welded on. slick
Have you made sure that the crossover will be high enough to clear the transmission? Otherwise, looks like good progress. A grinder is going to be your best friend!
AWeb80
yes. I have the stock manifolds/cross over right at my feet to make sure....I hold it up every so often just to refresh my memory. If that gay engine mount wasn't in the way, I would be able to make logs like I want to, instead of putting it in the tube longways........ slick
Good deal.
AWeb80
I'll also bolt up the bellhousing to make sure. i'll have to cut the X over off right after teh bend towards teh back to weld on a Flex pipe, so, when I do that I'll double check everything
Brian P
I had to fit a 1 5/8" pipe into a 1.88" ID tube, so I had to fill in the gap w/ weld. . I don't like the sound of that!!! Any way to try to flare out the end of the smaller dia tube? Possibly something like this? http://www.drillspot.com/products/429617/Westward_1MUE3_Pipe_Expander

AWeb80
haha was working on them yesterday.....and forgot to take pics. I'm almost done w/ the front log. It was taking forever because I really needed a belt sander to help sand the angles and debur the cuts. So, I took some time and researched and found a decent one at Harbor Freight and got it tonight. Spend an hour setting it up. I bought it to use, but gave it to my dad as thanks for letting me use his shop. He is happy. He never really knew they existed. now he wants to use it too......LOL

AWeb80
.........ran into a few problems. I had the middle one welded and somehow it warped...bad....so, I had to cut it off and weld it back up....what PITA. I then got the third one fabbed up.... I'm starting to figure my welds out. It's quit a learning process. This front LOG is taking a long time to fab up....But I think I have a technique that will work better on the rear. Kinda ugly, but will look better when I grind them, sand blast, and paint.
RobertISaar
the portion we can see on the number 6 cylinder's base doesn't look too bad. better than my FSTB.... but thats not saying much.
