meltboy1
89 grand prix, 2.8 I am putting the EGR blockoff plate on and I am not plannin on putting the AC back together either so I got a couple questions. 1: Will my ECU be all Fd up without the EGR connected or will everything run fine? 2: Anyone know the belt # for a 2.8 without AC? intern8tion9l
i'm pretty sure you need the chip set up to have those things removed
ManicMechanic
I don't think belts are available anymore, but you can get a cheap bypass pulley for the A/C.
BXX
I don't think belts are available anymore, but you can get a cheap bypass pulley for the A/C. Yes they are.. You need the second idler pulley from GM for a Corsica or Beretta 2.8L w/o AC.. You just go to the part store and ask for a serp belt for one of those as well... And yes, you need a new chip burned for the EGR delete..
meltboy1
ok well I will hold off on the EGR delete then til a later date, but what would happen if I did delete it without getting the chip to handle it? There are a handful of corsicas and berettas at the yard, I am goin tomorrow so I will see if I can get one of them pullies there.
BXX
ok well I will hold off on the EGR delete then til a later date, but what would happen if I did delete it without getting the chip to handle it? The pulleys are about $25 from a GM dealer, and come with a new bolt and the spacer/washer If you deleted the EGR without getting a tune for it, your fuel trims will be off, it can hurt gas mileage, not to mention combustion temps will rise a considerable amount, so burning a valve becomes a big possibility. Since your PCM expects the EGR to be working and dump exhaust gas in (which helps cool down cylinder temps) it runs a leaner AFR... No exhaust gas to cool down cylinder temps with the leaner AFR you can burn a valve quite quickly... Not to mention you may experience more knock.. meltboy1
great, thanx for all the info!
White93z34
I know you can run a shorter belt with no issues and no idler pulleys. however I do not know what that belt is for. my suggestion is to measure out how long a belt you need and goto a good autoaprts store and see if they can find one that will work
SappySE107
Really, I would have assumed the computer would throw a code for the EGR not working, and then use the fuel trims and spark tables associated with no EGR. SES light yes, burned valves no.
92supreme
i have the 3.4 in my car that i installed a egr block plate and didn"t do any computer tunning and i have yet to see a check engine light. i have lower mpg. but one thing to know is that egr is only activated off idle and at cruizing. wich means not activated at full throttle and idle. so I don"t belive that a burnt valve is possible. jtwmechanic
burnt valves typically are caused be an exhaust leak close to head allowing cold air to rush the exhaust valve cooling it to fast.
