GJD5
So I'm doing a head gasket on a 97 3400...you know the brass fitting that is right next to the thermostat, the one that points straight back and has a quick connect fitting for the heater core line going to it...well I got a question about that. I pulled the quick disconnect out and there appears to be several parts to it. You have the plastic disconnect, then a plastic spacer that fits up against the connector, then the o-ring and then what? Does another plastic piece slide on there? The reason I ask is because I cleaned out a very brittle blackish/brownish/rustyish ring out of the brass fitting part. Looks like it used to be another plastic ring...I think it is needed or else the tube would be loose if I pushed it back in.
jtwmechanic
most any auto parts place will have a rebuild kit for this new lock ring o-ring and sleeve. everyone i have ever took apart were corroded and needed replaced. clean well both sides of tube and hose connection push in tight and bolt done the metal tab which makes sure it doesn't come loose. Crazy K
"rebuild" parts are available... but you can buy a whole new connector for about $12... OR... go to the part store and open one up and make sure you can get all the parts seperatly.
