Few questions on the way my 91 has been acting

So I havent touched the car for the last 2 months and today I decided to push it in the shop and test the alternator... I first checked battery voltage... It had 2.7 volts... It is a brand new battery about 5 months old... In 2 months time, I didnt think that it should drop that much... There has to be some serious draw in order for it to drop that much... The weather hasnt been the best but still... Does that seem right? Back to my story... I charged in on a slow charge for 2 hours and then started it with all accessories off, car idled at 1300... Battery had 12.89 volts constant... I then turned the headlights on... The battery voltage started dropping .1 volts every 2 seconds until it killed itself around 12.1 volts... So Its safe to say that it is the alternator.

Part two... I went to move out of the shop, put it in gear, let out the clutch and the car just revs... I can feel it go into gear but it will never grab the gear... When parked and I put it in gear to hold it, it will still roll by itself... Does that sound like clutch or something else?

yes... alternator

Dont know much about the other one, but it could be the throwout bearing, but the fact that is rolls when in gear and the car shut off... idk... . I could be way wrong... all i know is that with my old S10 i started having issues and took it apart, and the clutch ended up being fine, but that bearing is what caused the issues

it sounds like either a REALLY hosed clutch or something in the hydraulics for the clutch.

pop off the little black plastic cover on the front of the trans (if it is still there) and see if you can see the slave cyl actuating when someone else presses the clutch pedal.

I don't THINK a bad TO bearing could cause this issue. If that was the case it would start and run fine in neutral but either not go into any gear or stall.

I've had a car with a new battery die after a month of sitting, I would not jump to saying it is the alternator at all. That seems pretty reasonable to me, especially if the weather has been chillier. The fact the battery got to 2.7 volts caused it to be unable to hold charge, therefore when the car was running, even the alternator couldn't sustain the battery.

When my new cheapo walmart battery died after my white cutty sat for a month, I had it on slow charge, car started fine but the lights would flicker and the voltage would decrease just like with your GP. It had a brand new alternator and ever since I put in a new battery, been perfect.

Try another battery before you waste your time with an LQ1 alternator.

The first issue that you describe does indeed sound like the alternator to me. Voltage consistently dropping while the car is running sounds like the alternator. If your battery got down to 2.7 volts though, is is most likely bad as well. Replace the battery and watch what happens with the voltage then. If it still drops while running, the alternator is bad. Or ask Nick about the blown fuses causing the same no charge situation on his car recently.

Second issue I would say is either the clutch or the pressure plate. When in gear with the motor off, the car should not roll freely. If it does, there is either something wrong with the clutch / pressure plate, or the engine has no compression. Considering the car runs at all, I'd say the engine has compression

Yah, I read Nicks thread and the fuses are fine... The engine has 180 psi on all 6 cylinders... I will try another battery since I have the one from my parts car laying around

most altenators will give close to 14 volts or higher when excited battery or not. voltmeters are your friend. a good altenator with a good battery even a dead one will recover quickly. most likely a bad altenator. oh yea! your clutch is wasted. don't forget to have the flywheel turned and clean all surfaces with solvent. there is always machine oil on the pressure plate and on the flywheel from it being turned.

probably not. but it is not good that it is that low. add fluid and see where that gets you. if it is leaking out it is probably the axle seals

Would low trans fluid do this or no? I checked the fluid level and its not on the dipstick

Chris is right, it's not good to have fluid that low, but it won't cause the issue you're seeing. It's the clutch.
