Timm
Background: I'm pretty sure I'm getting my uncles 2002 Impala. Problem: He said the keyless entry worked fine, but it would cause the security light to come on and every so often cause it not to start. I looked into it, and decided to try to bypass the passlock security system. Solution???: http://www.justanswer.com/questions/9m4j-chevrolet-impala-2002 ------------------------------------- This problem is usually caused by the pass lock sensor in the ignition switch. There are a couple of things you can do. 1. replace the ignition lock cylinder + Relearn. 2. By-pass the security system + Relearn. You can solder a 2.2k resistor between the black and yellow wires at the pass-lock sensor. The sensor is plugged into the lock cylinder and the wires will be very small. A relearn will be needed to complete the task and have your vehicle run. 1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. 2. Attempt to start the engine, then release the key to ON. The vehicle will not start. 3. Observe the SECURITY light, after approximately 10 minutes the light will turn OFF. 4. Turn OFF the ignition, and wait 5 seconds. 5. Repeat steps 1 through 4 two more times for a total of 3 cycles/30 minutes. The vehicle is now ready to relearn the Pass-lockâ„¢ Sensor Data Code and/or passwords on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK. Important The vehicle learns the Pass-lockâ„¢ Sensor Data Code and/or password on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK. You must turn the ignition OFF before attempting to start the vehicle. 6. Start the engine. The vehicle has now learned the Pass-lockâ„¢ Sensor Data Code and/or password. ------------------------------------- Does anyone know if this will work? Thanks! Addicted2bass
You should be able to do this WITHOUT doing a relearn. 1. Find the passlock wire like the above instructions say. 2. Cut the black wire and strip back the yellow wire. 3. Get a multimeter, put one side to the cut black wire side thats going to the ignition switch, put the other side on the yellow wire. 4. While holding the key in the start position check the reading from your multimeter, get a resistor this size. 5. Solder the resistor to the yellow wire and to the cut black wire going away from the ignition, towards the BCM. The car should start after this, if not you may have to leave the key on for 10-15 minutes or untill the security light stops blinking. Timm
Sounds just like the security bypass on my 96 regal. Just measuring the resistance at a different spot. (Wires from ignition vs. Resistor in key) You still end up soldering in a couple resistors. I thought it was MUCH more complex than that. People kept saying stuff about a stock radio being reprogrammed..? Thanks for the help!
Addicted2bass
Yea its pretty much the same as the VATS system thats in your regal. These systems are a little more touchy though so make sure the resistor you get is as close to the cars resistance as possible make sure you solder it. The factory radio shouldnt need to be reset. The only reason that would need to be done is if the battery went dead. You may need to enter the security code.
