9lumina6
Got my parts from ZZP today... and had the day off so i went at it. Took out the old K&N intake wich was sucken in too much hot air....and put in the 4'' FWI w/ 9'' K&N cone. My intake temps used to be upwards of 40*C with the old intake. With this...i'm seeing 28-31*C wich is rite around 85*F and the air temperature today was 76*F....so about 10* above the air temp now w/ this intake, alot better then b4. Also put in a 160* drilled T-stat..to replace my non drilled 180*....but my coolant temps are still at 180-183* when i scanned today. I guess i have to program the fans to the 160* T-stat. Jamie All go...no show. 2' of the tubing was $21 and the cone was about $35. *ohh and the 3''-4'' connector and 4''-4'' conectors total was about $10 and some change.... so about $66 total. slick
180-183*F temps ARE not hot at all. IMO, i'd be happy with those temps, especially if that is stop and go traffic.

IMO, i'd be happy with those temps, especially if that is stop and go traffic. that was at 85-95mph on I-75 i'd say thats more than cool enough.... but it does look like the thermostat isn't really opening as soon as its rated for. i know that when i replaced mine it was opening about 30* too soon and staying around 165* as long as i was moving(keep in mind it was the original one when it was 13 years old). replaced it with a 195* one and according to some datalogs, it doesn't get above 200* whenever i'm moving, so it is accurate. but i'm talking about a L82, so it may or may not apply... 9lumina6
last night i took the t-stat back out to look on hte bottom of it to make sure it was a 160 and not a 180....and it is definately a 160...also said 71...so i assume thats the Celcius rating. Took her for a ride last night when the air temp was a cool 63-65 degrees......my coolant temps on my Tuner were sayen no more then 75*C when moving (or about 170F).... and my IAT's were 19-22*C. That clearly shows that the T-stat is trying to do its job....just needs the fans tuned to work w/ a 160 and not a 180.
SigEpCutlass
You made a nice budget FWI.
runt
You made a nice budget FWI. x2! That probably performs just as well as the expensive ones! But, I do have to ask this: Are you worried about rain water getting sucked up inside the intake? I'd love to run an intake down there, but with the weather here (rainy, snowy, etc) I'd be worried about pulling too much moisture up. It has crossed my mind....but theres alot of guys on the forums running FWI's in their GP's and i havnt heard of any1 getting water into their engine. It's pretty protected by the inner fender. Yu'd really have to drive thru floodwater to get water into the cone. Plus....it barely rains down here. It's only rained 3 times since ive been here. 9lumina6
BTW..... went on my 1st road trip with the new FWI. From here up to Atlanta Georgia and back...... averaged 32.8mpg on my trip computer on the way there and 31.3 on the way back down here. And that was all 80-85mph. Euro
Very nice. I was always leary of the K&N intake that we both have being very effective. But, it's never been a big deal to me haha.

But, it's never been a big deal to me haha. Yeah.... that intake did suck alot of hot air into the motor.... those shields w/ that intake are crap. I've had it for the longest time.... on my GT and GTP. made the blower whine Sound sick as hell too, but this new intake not only sounds the same (if not, a TINY but louder) I also get better gas mileage with it on highway cruises, and ive noticed my IAT is 10-15* cooler on a hot day.... even more cool at night.
