obd 2 question

i was just thinking when i had a new engine put in my car. the engine supposedly came out of a 97 lumina. so would that mean the mechanic would of had to do a obd2 swap to make it work with my car. i hope this isnt a dumb question

i would bet he used the necessary top end parts off the old engine to keep it like factory.
