mattlgiberson
Ok...I know this has probably been asked a million times before.....but... Will the transmission from a 1994 Cutllass with a 3.1L work in a 1996 with a 3.4L? I gather that the 94 would probably be a 4t60 and the 96 would be a 4t60-E? Regal_GS_1989
Nope. They are both 4T60E's. With that said, it should work, however there are certain parts that need to be changed around first, though I forget exactly what those parts are. IIRC, the transmissions mounted to the 3.4 also had a different Final Drive ratio than the ones attached to the 3.1, but once again, those parts could be swapped over. Crazy K
i keep hearing that the 96 transmission is 96 only. also, the gear ratio from a 3.4 and 3.1 are different. with an obdII pcm, you will probably have issues. I think Brian P might be able to give you a certain answer on the "unofficial" interchange.
Brian P
swap the neutral switch/gear selector switch and there's no other external differences between a '96 tranny and a '94-96 tranny (from a 3100 car). Your only issue would be the gear ratio difference. Even though it's minor, the PCM will pick up on it and raise hell.
