meltboy1
Ok, so I finally got the tranny back in the 5spd, got everything hooked back up, turn the key for the first time, and clank boom clunk is pretty much all I hear. It's seized up and the clutch pedal was stiff as shit. I take off the clutch from the tranny, reach in there, and the clutch fork is stuck all the way in.... Does this mean that somehow while I put the tranny on, the TO bearing got off center or whatever and is now stuck on the pressure plate? I am so incredibly pissed off right now, I can't even begin to describe it. I have to take it all apart again, and that is something I am not looking forward to... I would advise anyone to test the function of the clutch before cranking, as you may have caused actual damage by cranking. good luck! meltboy1
well I did test the clutch, at first it was very soft, hardly any resistance at all, I thought that may have been normal, so I pumped it a few times, and it got to what felt like normal stiffness, so at that point I cranked it over and nothing, and then when I went to hit the clutch it was hard as a rock, barely moved at all... meltboy1
If I did in fact F up the pressure plate, do I have to go with the same kind that came with the stage 2 clutch set, or could I just get a generic one?... and before anyone asks why I went with stage 2, it's because this summer sometime I plan on either swapping that tranny into the TGP or just turboing the 5spd, haven't decided which yet. White93z34
I doubt you messed up the pressure plate. I wish I was more familiar with the 282 so I could help you out more. Dumb question but did you make certain that the splines on the trans smoothly went into the clutch disk? are you sure you remembered to snap the TO bearing into the pressure plate upon reassembly? meltboy1
are you sure you remembered to snap the TO bearing into the pressure plate upon reassembly? Uh... I thought I just put it on the pilot shaft as I put the tranny in... this was my first time doing this kinda work... And no, it didn't smoothly go on, it took some pushing hitting and turning til it finally went in.
spiderw31
When I did the clutch on my old Fiero (Isuzu tranny, but same clutch style as the 282), the TO bearing did not snap to the pressure plate, but is slid onto the input shaft of the tranny. The clutch fork would press the TO bearing which in turn pressed the pressure plate causing the clutch to release. It sounds to me like you did assemble yours correctly but something gave way when you cranked the motor.
