good work! The large port 3100 should be a bit of an upgrade from what you had, personally I would have found a low mile 3400 and dumped it in. but it looks to be progressing nicely either way.

junkyard guys are weird folk, anymore if I am looking for something that they say "won't work" I just tell em I'm after that part for the car its coming out of.

Good work, I love how you put it in the back of your minivan  It probably worked great, I've thought of doing this several times, it would be nice and low for your cherrypicker to reach in and grab it. I'd just be afraid of getting oil and antifreeze all over the carpet, but if you have enough cardboard (like you do) that shouldn't be a problem.

nice! please tell me you went through that engine with new gaskets and cleaned it up before putting it in....

Only topend excluding egr. I put lots of degreaser on the motor but couldn't spray it off as it was -129083 degrees outside.

The first time I fired the car on friday night, I had a fuel leak. So I pulled the uim and replaced all of the orings on the fuel injectors.

Fired up the second time tonight and everything is going perfectly. I let it idle for about 20 minutes because the battery was almost dead. Then I took it for a drive.

When I started driving, the temp gauge skyrocketed. So I pulled over and shut it off, got under the hood with my bottle of 5050mix and went to top it off, but it was still full. So I squeezed the upper radiator hose and its ice cold.

So I hop back into my car and turn around to go home. Turn the heat on full blast and Im getting ice cold air coming through. Temp gauge still climbing, past 260. I got home and both fans are running when I shut it off, but now the upper radiator hose is now hot.

sounds like you got a serious air pocket in there somewhere.

Fix???

There are two bleeder screws, one by the thermostat, and one by the water pump. crack them open until coolant comes out, and keep adding coolant as necessary.

Cool.

I figured that was what those were.

When I went back out, the entire overflow tank had been emptied. After bleeding it, I took it for a drive and everything went perfectly.

Except...

The oil light came on.

Not the Low Oil light but the other one.

It came on slowly and then stuck on. Is that light oil pressure?

The oil light came on.

Nevermind. Actually, I changed the battery and the light hasn't come on since.

I got an Optima Red Top.

Totally related!

I want to hear what kinda of improve it there with the new version of the 3100 sfi

Well, there's not much difference. The sound you get under the hood has a much deeper tone at wot. Its a little easier to light up the tires. I'll have some real numbers to show when I go to the track later this year.

If you come across a 3400 throttle body, grab it and install it on your new motor. 3400 TB's are 56mm, your 3100 intake has a 56mm air inlet opening, but GM stuck a 52mm TB onto it.

Nice swap, glad it went relatively smoothly.

so will you still have to deal with the intake gasket failure?
