Red95GP
ok, so I drive my car and I hear this weird "whirring" sound when I floor it or accelerate hard. I figure the EGR is prolly leaking....well it is. Ive taken it off before to clean it and didnt replace the gasket so I figured it was that. I buy a gasket(only 1, I thought there was only 1) then I disassemble/clean the egr and put everything back on. well now I think it leaks more. I put my hand behind the EGR and I can feel the air escaping. I replaced the gasket thats at the bottom(has a horseshoe kinda thing to it) but theres a top one too. I looked at the advance auto website and cant find any other gasket but the ine I bought and some other one that I dont know where it goes because I havnt seen one on my car. I think I need to replace this upper gasket but cant seem to find it. Dealer only part? The car is a 95 Grand Prix, 3100. Thanks for any help! 95 vert
There's a gasket where the EGR mounts to the intake and one below it where the pipe from the exhaust comes up to the manifold at the EGR
Red95GP
Oh, then it seems like I replaced the middle one. I think its the one that you said, at the connection from the exhaust pipe to the intake/egr. Would this gasket be kinda square looking? Red95GP
Is this the one for the tube?
Red95GP
So this looks like the one I took off: This is the one I got from the parts store, and installed: Are they interchangeable? Does each one serve a different purpose? The one I put one seemed to fit it just fine. The shape was the same on the outside.
95 vert
Yea, thats the pipe gasket and it looks like the second gasket may be a little too big?
Red95GP
The one I put on fit it fine around the outter edges. I whent to 3 auto parts stores and none had the gaskets. They had to be ordered. Im thinking the egr pipe got disconnected when I did the injector o-rings. Im gonna check it out tommorow.
Lumineer
It was an EGR valve leak that's part of the problem on my Reatta. It was apparently damaged due to high backpressure from the catalytic converter, which we have determined IS in fact clogged. My Reatta makes the same distinct "whirr"ing sound, which almost sounds like a deep-voiced ghost.
Red95GP
I replaced the cat about 4 months ago, so i dont think its that but there is a possibility.
Red95GP
after replacing both gaskets it still has a small leak and the noise is still there. Not sure whats up with this car but im getting frustrated.
