Masterchief362
So, the 3100 in my cutty, ever since the day my father bought the car, has always idled in park at 1000rpm or higher, even when warmed up. When in drive and warm it'll idle at 900, 850 at the least. Now, this is according to the tach. My lumina and every other 3100 I have driven has idled around 700 or so warm, and under 1000 in park. Any ideas as to why my car does this? Maybe an inaccurate tach?
AL
I am thinking Tach... In my 03, the gauge says I idle at 1k in park and 850 in gear but when I hooked my scanner up to it, it said 800 in park and 650 in gear
slick
Rachel's regal does the same. Look on top of your throttle body, under neath the black bracket. There should be a black tube, IIRC it is part of your PCV system. With the car running, press down on it, and see if the idle drops any. Masterchief362
Heh, well I had troubles with the PCV tube there, and it had my idle up to 1300 according to the tach, and I fixed that with a new piece of thick rubber to hold the tube into the throttle body. So I have no leaks there... since the car has always been like this, I am just going to not worry.
Andrew
sounds normal, i wouldnt worry.

mine runs about that high, right around 900 or so. i wouldnt be too worried. it could be the tach as well, idk how much faith i would put in that. GOT2B GM
Factory tachs aren't known for their accuracy.

Masterchief362
Considering It has been this way for the entire time I have had the car, I say screw worrying about it. There are more important things to worry about. Like which shirt to wear today.
Lumineer
My '91 3800 idles around 900ish when fully warmed, according to the tach.
