Yea. My Dad Has 2 Jack Stands.....And A Couple 15 Ton Bottle Jacks. LOL. That's The Least Of My Worries. And Next Sunday May Work If You Want To Come Down And Help. Will Be A Learning Experience For Me And More For You. I Hope To Have As Much Engine Bay Stuff Removed As Possible By Then.

I will be there! PM me an address... Hmmm... Might be kinda tough to get everything out if the car cant be lifted that high... Also, if dropping out the bottom, are you gonna move the whole subframe from under the car or do you wanna lower it enough to unhook the trans an slide it out? We could let the subframe sit right on the ground and jack the car up and remove it...

Having done it both ways... I kinda prefer the top myself, however one way is about as hard as the other. going out the bottom is a good way to do it and keep the engine in the car. Next one I do will be out the bottom with the engine coming out as well as I will need the engine bay real estate for room to work.

Well I just got done removing my tranny the other day and I did it by myself. It wasn't too hard really after reading up on it, just unbloted the rack and pinion unbloted the subframe on the drivers side, loosened the passenger side supported with a jack, and lowered the drivers side as low as the jack would go and pulled it right out the side, it's only a few hours of work.

This guide helped me out quite a bit too:

Oh I see... that might alter the end result

I always go out the top. I don't like messing with having to re-align the subframe, and chance the frame falling on me in my tight 1-car garage. 3100's are not difficult to disconnect from the car, in fact it's easier than the 2.8/3.1 mpfi.

if I had an engine puller I woulda pulled the whole thing, but my limited tools and income made me have to do it this way, sure it's more of a PITA, but it was my only option... :(

well, my dad does have a cherry picker. i really didn't want to un hook the engine and pull it. just seems like more work. but, it would give of a chance to easily replace my leaky rear valve cover. and build the headers easier.

Well if you have access to one and are confident in pullin the whole thing than ya, that would probably be easier, and it would be a great chance to get everything else you need to get done all at one.

I honestly really debate which way is more work, dropping the cradle or just pulling the whole damn engine and trans.

And like Chris said, if you decide to yank the engine hunt down a low mileage 3400 and dump that in.

well when i dropped the tranny from my 89 it came out fine from the bottom. only thing i had a problem with is getting the tranny off the jack(i have a tranny jack adapter for my floor jack). but yeah i had it out in no time really. at some point in time i'll be pulling out the tranny in my 97 to replace the toasted torque converter.
