19Cutlass94
From about 2500RPM and above, I get this loud whistle noise and its driving me up a wall. I cant figure out what it is. Ive check the vaccum lines, I bought another EGR gasket, since the EGR likes to loosen up over time and ruin the gasket, so I need to check that still... but does this happen to anyone else? Its very annoying and I want to get it fixed.
rockfangd
ok i have not had it happen to mine. But the only thing that comes to mind is either a clogged air filter and it is sucking air from another source, Is this only when driving or when stationary also. If it was while moving i would say there is a small gap between one of the front doors and the body and when this happens you will hear a distinct whistle above certain speeds. 19Cutlass94
Its deff not a gap in the body panels. Its loud enough you can hear it from under the hood. You can open the windows, step on it, and hear it. Its pretty loud.
Addicted To Boost
Leaking UIM gasket?
19Cutlass94
Ive actually never thought of that. I know when I put the UIM on part of the gasket got crushed.
5speedz34
Do you have the stock airbox? It sounds like it could be just your cone filter?
19Cutlass94
I bought new UIm gaskets because im sure I will have to replace those and it looks like they are leaking in certian spots, but however i just found out that the EGR was loose and the purge soloniod had no vacuum line connected. swift13
is this a 3.1 i am assuming??? i have had this happen but it may not be the same, a buddy of mine had a 96 monte 3.1 and at first i thought it was the wheel bearing cuz he said it only happened at like 30-45 mph but when he pulled it in for me to fix it happened in neutral at about 2500 rpm i thought it was the uim gs but it was a hole in the uim just before the egr, seems the egr or cat got clogged and backed up and blew a hole on the under side of the uim
