Ned Flanders
I can't seem to track the root of this problem down. When I get in the car and go, the steering is fine. After I drive it for awhile, it's harder to turn the wheel. It feels like my tires don't have enought air, but they do. There's plenty of fluid in the pump, it's always leaked a little but it's not leaking more, and the belts and pulleys seem okay. Everything looks fine. ????? Q-Ball
I'm going to have to guess something to do with the power steering. Does it make any more noise as if its struggling?
Ned Flanders
Not really. Sometimes I get a whiff of something plasticky burning too, that's why I thought it was a caliper. There's a little squeak coming from up front too...belts seem to be fine and everything's moving okay. P/S fluid should be red, right? Ned Flanders
Probably burnt to hell. I haven't touched it since I bought the car 4 years ago. Well, looks like next weekend's project is lined up!
rockfangd
There is some red power steering fluid. But most of todays fluid is clear.
Ned Flanders
I need to smell it I guess. I love the scent of fresh P/S fluid in the morning.
Ned Flanders
It was the pump, and everything is now back to normal, or as normal as it gets with a Regal!
1990lumina
Depnds on the type of fluid that is used as to what color it is. AC Delco Ccold Climate is green. Suzukis all use ATF so it's red. The Swift uses what smells like gear oil (obviously it's not though) and it's brown brand new lol...just depepnds. Good to hear it's working better for you. Ned Flanders
I went about 300 miles with it this weekend and it seemed fine. So, problem solved, I hope!
Ned Flanders
Well, maybe it's not so fine...it was stiffer than ever tonight... I'm hoping it's the tires, because the PS fluid is at the right level... I will happily pay for an alignment, but not the rack and pinion. I should just shove money under the hood of the car and drive it, at the rate I'm going. It's not like there's no power assist, it just feels a lot more "muddy" than it used to.
