oldscsc
I posted this in the whatever thread an hour or two ago... The Cutlass was burning a little antifreeze today. Just barely enough to see it when I was about to shut it off. I could smell it with the heater on full blast (only when I was stopped in the parking lot) but only could see it when the headlights were on. I watched the mechanic do the thermostat job, and he spilled a little antifreeze on the manifolds. That was a good month ago though, so I don't think that would be it. I'll have to see it a hose is seeping and dripping on something hot. Only smelled and smoked when I was going to turn it off, so what could it be? It happened going to and from school today. I was just going to pass it off but I've been thinking about it more and more.
Ned Flanders
Check your hoses first, and watch the level in your reservoir very closely for the next few days. Make sure you've got some antifreeze in the car with you at all times, mixed up and ready to go. I learned this lesson the hard way.
oldscsc
I found no leaks. I got under the car and looked. The only spots on the garage floor are oil and I believe are coming from the oil pan.
old442man
I found no leaks. I got under the car and looked. The only spots on the garage floor are oil and I believe are coming from the oil pan. When my antifreeze was running out of my intake gaskets I still didn't find any spots, but my engine bay is pretty filthy.
Regallyblack
Wash everything down and let it dry, then do a coolant pressure test... its gotta come out somewhere. But b4 that check your oil cap to see if there white residue on it. if there is.. then mr engine is leaking coolant.
mra32
To try to see coolant leaks, the best situation for such is to run the car till its plenty hot and once you've stopped, keep the car running, pop the hood and look for leaks. blipping the throttle might also help you see leaks, depending on where in the system the leak could be, since that will get the water pump to turn faster. oldscsc
It's going to the mechanic this week, I'll post back with what he finds out. I can see fluid on the plenum that I've noticed lately, although it doesn't seem to have much of a smell.
IRONDOG442
Lower Intake Manifold seal !
oldscsc
Lower Intake Manifold seal ! A.K.A. gaskets. That's what I assumed it was from what you and Josh told me. It will be getting four new tires, brakes on all four corners, and the L.I.M. gaskets done. How does it spray up and where from?
jerry455
sometimes antifreeze will evaporate if it is a small leak, which makes it hard to find a leak.
