jjs316 Posted August 24, 2003 Report Posted August 24, 2003 Just would like to see a few opinions on these....Any brand or types that someone has used, which did the best for someone?? Whats the best brand/type of plugs that I should get?? Whats the best brand/type of plug wires that I should get?? Whats the best brand/type of oil that I should use?? (115,000 Miles on my car) Whats the best intake system/setup for a 3.4 Z-34?? Also, Whats the best exhaust setup/brand to use on a 3.4?? Thanks for the info... :worship: Quote
Redfox340 Posted August 24, 2003 Report Posted August 24, 2003 Whats the best brand/type of plugs that I should get?? Ac Delco Rapidfires - best with GM's driect ignition system! Whats the best brand/type of plug wires that I should get?? Autolite, OEM, Magnacor or Bosch. Direct fit and length. Whats the best brand/type of oil that I should use?? (115,000 Miles on my car) Depends on the condition of engine. If it's not leaking use recommended weight on oil cap / owners manual. As for flavor, my DOHC with 172K was using Valvoline 5W-30 and did well. Also, Whats the best exhaust setup/brand to use on a 3.4?? There are kits, but I like piecing it together from different companies. Magnaflow, Borla, and Flowmasters are some of the favorites around here. Personally, had Flowmasters with replaced stock size piping and it gave a lower tone / growl. - Erik Quote
GrandPrix34 Posted August 24, 2003 Report Posted August 24, 2003 wow, Redfox, there is no end to your knowledge... We all truly appreciate it though... I have NGK V-Power plugs. Compared with the stocker AC Delco's, which one would perform better?? Quote
Vegeta Posted August 24, 2003 Report Posted August 24, 2003 I use normal AC delco. Spark is spark, either it works or it doesn't. I ran rapid fires and have noticed no difference with the cheaper AC variations. Magnecor if you can afford it, they last forever (or close). Mobil, or mobil one. I also liked amsoil but its not something you can just go to the store and pick up. It does allow for longer change intervals if your engine is in good condition. I put it in a friens metro years ago and after 5k, it looked like I had just put it in. If you have blowby though, just get regular oil and change it often. I like a single exhaust setup over the fake dual for sound. Weighs less as well. Im using 2.5" mandrel bent, high flow cat, and a 40 series flowmaster. I would add a resonator in there as well but its not on my priority list now. Quote
patgizz Posted August 24, 2003 Report Posted August 24, 2003 delco plugs, delco wires, delco filter, royal purple oil, and i like my single 2.5" exhaust w/ catco cat and thrush super turbo muffler, like ben i shy away from the "fake duals" because it really serves no purpose besides adding weight and price to the exhaust Quote
jjs316 Posted August 25, 2003 Author Report Posted August 25, 2003 I stopped and talked to a buddy of mine that works at the local advanced auto parts and he said that the best plugs they have are bosch platnuim (SP?) plugs and autolite wires....pretty hefty price for both of them...the plugs were like 6 a piece and the wires were like 80 bucks...What size wires?? Or does it really matter?? Quote
GPRACER Posted August 25, 2003 Report Posted August 25, 2003 1995 GP SE....Platinum plugs don't give better performance, just longer life, stick with the AC Delco plugs, I use the cheap ones and change them every 50,000 kilometers, make sure to check the gap before you install them. I use AC Delco oil filters, Mobil 1 synthetic oil and a K & N filter in the stock air box. AC Delco wires too. When my exhaust rusted out I installed a factory cat back system out of a wrecked 2001 bonney ssei, very minor mods to the brackets and hangers. Quote
Redfox340 Posted August 25, 2003 Report Posted August 25, 2003 wow, Redfox, there is no end to your knowledge... We all truly appreciate it though... [humble] Hey, I do what I can and what I know... [/humble] I, too, like the same when I have questions. When my exhaust rusted out I installed a factory cat back system out of a wrecked 2001 bonney ssei, very minor mods to the brackets and hangers. Good item to know! Thanks for the update? Just hanger modifications? Excellent! - Erik Quote
jjs316 Posted August 25, 2003 Author Report Posted August 25, 2003 Anyone ever used or heard of the accel cut to fit wires? my friend said they were better then the autolites, but you had to make them yourself...? Quote
SmokesGTP Posted August 25, 2003 Report Posted August 25, 2003 I don't buy the platinums they're shit, copper conducts electricity better but they market the platinums as performance plugs. They last long but don't work well on the DOHC because the DIS is wasted spark(Coils fire in both a forward and backward direction basically). They only fire off one electrode too from what I understand but I could be wrong. That would mean all that +4 and +2 crap is just throwing money away. I listen to my Honda buddies talk all day about they're Bosch Platinums and I tell them this and they look at me funny and tell me I don't know anything Quote
GPRACER Posted August 25, 2003 Report Posted August 25, 2003 Anyone ever used or heard of the accel cut to fit wires? my friend said they were better then the autolites, but you had to make them yourself...? Yeah, they suck? I have used them a coupe of times on performance V-8's, I always have the same trouble, burned plug boots. Quote
Vegeta Posted August 25, 2003 Report Posted August 25, 2003 accel cut to wires may as well be made out of lint and solder. Total garbage. They lasted 10k in my car before I noticed a loss in performance and hesitation. Quote
haywire4130 Posted August 31, 2003 Report Posted August 31, 2003 hey, just wanted to add my 2 cents on platinum "+4" plugs and accell wires. the cut to fit accells are junk for sure. they fit like crap and arc out after 10k (just like he said) and as for the +2 and +4 plugs, electricity can only travel to the path of least resistance. it will travel to whichever of the 2 or 4 electrodes is closest, that's it. i remember laughing at the splitfire commercials that show the spark dancing all over the place, it can only travel to one at a time, a ground is a ground. speed safely and keep the rubber side down! haywire4130 Posted August 31, 2003 Report Posted August 31, 2003 by the way, who makes a mandrel bent exhaust for a grand prix 3.1? i couldn't find one to save my life, so i swapped on a set of turbo mufflers and high flow cats, but i would love to go single 2.5 with mandrel bends. any info would be sweet. howw can i post pics of my car (actually it's my girl's car, but we work on it all the time, i love the challenge of finding/making hop up parts for it!) peace Quote

Your best bet is what you already did, some good mufflers and no cat or a high flow one. A local muffler shop could install some 2.5 stainless piping, thats about the best you can do. As to hostin pics, in the post put the link INSIDE these tags, should look something like this: Robby Quote
ShockTherapy Posted August 31, 2003 Report Posted August 31, 2003 Autolites, they're cheap, and i've never had any problems. Magnecor is the best. period. What's the oil cap say? and castrol synthetic is the best. dunno, i'm a 3800, i've heard about red-z or something like that... can't go wrong with some flowmasters. Quote
gp90se Posted August 31, 2003 Report Posted August 31, 2003 im with pat, if ac delco makes it, use it, wires plugs and filter. oil: mobil drive clean, valvoline maxlife or crisco (makes it taste good). exhaust: i like the fake duels myself, i have 2 dynomax high flow mufflers and catco high flow cat. looks cooler and sounds better then single imo intake: k&n drop in with the cut airbox mod is all ya need. stay away from synthetic, over 100k and its never used, DONT START. you'll find all kinds of new wonderful leaks. -Jeff valvoline grease monkey Quote
