88red4cyl
Like the title says, my 95 Lumina won't turn over... When I turn the key, I get a click from the engine bay... I charged the battery, so that is not it... Fuses looked good as well... Where should I go now?
ManicMechanic
Smack the starter with a hammer. You might be able to get it started that way. Check your aux. post. Sounds like your solenoid went.
pwmin
agreed...have someone tap the starter. you may need to jump it, too. try wiggling the battery cables, too

Sounds like your solenoid went. Dumb question, but where is the started located at exactly? Reason I ask is because we have a few inches of snow on the ground, and I was wondering if it was possible to get to without laying down... The car has done this periodically since i got it... Usually if you let it sit for 5 or 10 minutes, it would start right up and not have any more problems for months... But it has been doing it more and more frequently lately, and this time it won't start at all...

Would my battery charger work for jumping it?

Me, I can replace the starter without jacking up the car...LOL! Not many people can do that. THis is my van, but the same basic layout. Round cylindrical with a bunch of wires sprouting out of it. 88red4cyl
So it is on the front of the motor? And just hit it with a hammer? I went to try and start it again, and it isn't even clicking now...

EDIT--- Hm... Put the charger back on it for a while, and now it is showing 14.7 volts...
TIE1-ON
Even a charged battery doesn't mean it's "good". I say it's your battery. Change it.

If that's true, then how come sometimes it will start the car, and sometimes it won't? Everything in the car seems to be working when I turn the key as well.. The lights are all bright, etc... If that's true, then how come sometimes it will start the car, and sometimes it won't? Everything in the car seems to be working when I turn the key as well.. The lights are all bright, etc... The battery is under much more load when trying to start it then for powering lights, radio, etc. The intermittent problem you state sounds like a cell (or cells) are going bad. 88red4cyl
Thanks for all the help guys! I left the charger connected for 45 minutes, and then started it with the charger still connected... Fired it right up.. I'm going to swing by a parts store in a few minutes and get the battery checked out by one of their machines... I suppose the starter could still be bad too though, and I just got lucky? I never did hit on it...
88red4cyl
Well, I changed the battery, and the car starts now... Only problem is, that it cranks really slowly... Would that be a bad starter/solenoid?

Its turned over every time I have started it since I got the new battery.. The one I took out of it was an Interstate from October 2000... I was really surprised that it lasted that long...
