88red4cyl
Popped the top of my coolant resevoir on my 99 today, and it looked kinda funky... I'm not sure if there is oil in the coolant, or if it is because when I had the coolant flushed last fall, not 100% of the DexCool came out, and it kinda gave the green a funky pinky-green color (I am going to reflush it myself when it gets a little warmer outside and i can use my garden hose again)... So what are the tell-tale signs of oil in coolant? Does the coolant feel any different, or smell any different?
95 vert
Looks like chocolate milk! Actually, I've seen plenty of coolant in oil but don't think I've ever seen oil in coolant but I have seen trans fluid in coolant(broken tranny cooler in radiator) that looks exactly like chocolate milk. 98montels
I have seen oil in the coolant, and coolant in the oil on two 3100 powered cars at the same time. They both pulled around for oil changes at the same time and happen to have the same horrific problems.
dodgethis
I caught mine early. The lumina had only 60,000 miles when i noticed it. The car actually had green coolant when i noticed black chocolate milk mixed with green. It was not the most prettiest sight. I took it in to have it fixed, and the people who fixed it put in dexcool. I turned around and took it somewhere else to get the damn dex stuff flushed out. I had green put back into it. 88red4cyl
All right! Thanks guys, it doesn't look like chocolate milk (its still mostly clear), so I must be alright then!
