turdle
I have just finished rebuilding the top end of a 3100 in a 96 monte carlo and it went pretty well, as this is the third I have done, but I have one connector comming off of the wire harness between the alternator and the igition coils that I have no damn idea where it goes. It is a four pronger with only one red wire running into it and it has a orange seal on it. I can get a pic up here if need be. Also I have no Idea what happened to the second connector for the evap solinoid. I am pretty sure that I disconnected two. Is it possible it fell into the engine bay out of site... never existed? I don't know. I usually take very detailed notes and digital pics of everything I do, but I got cocky about it and only took minimal notes as to the order of disassembly. I also didn't tag every single connection like I did before. It did fire right up last night with no engine lights or anything odd, but I didn't test drive it as I don't have plates yet. I just picked it up last week for $400 and want to make sure that it is running before I spend more money on it. Any help is appreciated

Crazy K
A head on shot would be better! if one of those four connectors is larger than the other 3, it goes to the alternator.
turdle
Quite right. Head on it is. Is it possible that I connected the missing evap connector to the alternator and that is why I have this extra and missing one for the evap. I will check it out. Crazy K
I can't help. there is no similar plug on my car. probably a 96 or 96+ only item.
jerry455
that i think is the other connector to the alternator.
Crazy K
that i think is the other connector to the alternator. wait... it may be. D'OH! the earlier cars had the dual sized ones I described.
turdle
Thank you, that alternator is brand new. The guy I bought the car from just had it put in for 400 bucks! Funny, that is how much I paid for the car. Is there more than one connetion for the alternator? I plugged in one already and don't remember taking out two, but I will look again. 89SupremeCutty
i have a 98 lumina. should be the same as a 96 monte. i will go out in a few and check under the hood. EDIT: the connector goes into the alternator on the backside.
turdle
I went and took a look, I can only find the one connection for the alt and it is already plugged in.
89SupremeCutty
if you say that the one connection is already plugged in, does it have a single red wire comming out if it?
turdle
nope, it sure didn't. I plugged in the connector for the evap that I thought I couldn't find into the alternator, leaving that alternator connector orphaned. Got em connected the right way now. Thanks 89SupremeCutty, you the man! Note to self: don't get cocky and tag your connectors, dumba$$
