Scottster
Like the title says, does the HU in an STE have more power than the unit in my SE, which appears identical? I'm one of those weirdos who would rather have an original looking dash instead of a misshaped neon blue light for a radio with better sound quality. Just wondering if GM beefed them up to power all 10 speakers in "the most advanced [*cough*] entertainment system ever built into any automobile"... Brian P
back then it certainly was, it was most definitely better than the ham radios that the imports had.
jimmyfloyd
to answer, no, the head units are most likely the same. It would be an external amp or speakers that usually got changed if the headunits were not labeled (monsoon, bose, etc)
grandprixnyc
I believe the head units are the same. The STE's may have had some sort of amp, which I think the "Gain" slider on the door controlled.
no1kicker
The STE did have an external amp. IIRC, there were only 8 speakers because there weren't any under the dashpad, even though there were spots for it.
digitaloutsider
Correct on the 8 speakers and correct on the external amp. The HU is a standard cassette/CD.
