89GP_SE
By bigger I mean more amperage output. Is there such a thing as a 110 or 115 amp alternator for the 3.1's. All I can find at local parts stores are the 105 amps, and they dont seem to like too much draw (stereo, heater, and daytime running lights.) If so, where did you guys get your alternators from and how much. Thanks, Darren
ManicMechanic
You could get a stock alternator off a 3.1 or 3.4 Pontiac Trans Sport or Silhouette. They're rated at 140 and 145 amps. You will need the bracket as well and it SHOULD bolt up with no problems. The one on the LEFT is the stock 3100SFI. The one in the MIDDLE is the 135-140 amp. The one of the RIGHT is the stock 2.8/3.1.
BXX
Be careful, there may be firewall clearance issues. I know for a fact, most front strut tower braces wont clear since they sit soooo close to the altenator as it is...
89GP_SE
Manic, the bracket as in the one that the alternator bolts up too? Also, how would the electrics take a 140 amp alternator, would it be too much amperage?

ManicMechanic
Yes, that bracket. I haven't done this mod, but since it will come from a 60* V6, it should bolt up with no problems. And no, no problems will result in using a higher amp alternator.
Addicted To Boost
I brought my factory alt to a local starter and alternator shop, had them install 180-200 AMP internals (can't remember exact number) for $60. Works great! Be sure to upgrade your charge cable, battery cables, and grounds as well.
