5 speed donor car Q's

Hi guys, i've found you almost can't give a CS vert away, so I'm considering a 5 speed swap. I found a 90 CS International Coupe with in Pull-A-Part today, but it's not a 3.4, it's a Quad. Is this a good donor still? What about the flywheel, will it be balanced right and/or fit? Is it the same trans and ratios or are they different? I'm sure I need the axles, but any other problems/fitment issues? The console was the same design as mine.

the trans is almost completely unusable for anything but a q4.

the axles *should* be the same

the shift cables should work just fine

shifter assembly

firewall plate - provided it is vacuum brake and not PMIII will work

honestly, most everything but the PCM and transmission itself are useful

I am no Q4 expert so someone feel free to correct me here if I am wrong.

I think you could use a tranny from any V6 car and be OK, although there will likely be some brackets and external hardware that would need changing. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

I dunno about on other models, but at least on a W, if the motor is anything other than the 3.4, then the tranny will be a 282. Not even sure the 284 was used on any models other than the W :dunno:

Do I have to have a 3.4 flywheel? Would a 282 hold a stock 3.4 TDC motor? Would the trans mounts from the Quad 4 car be good to grab too?

I think the transmission stuff can just be disconnected and on a 93 not cause any probs, right?

Do I have the unboltable firewall plate on my 93 Vert? I don't want to be welding on the car, but I can make brackets and stuff.

flywheel should be removable.

THe 282 would probably work, but is not as strong as a 284 stock.

On the quad 4 car, I'd probably grab the shift assembly, shift cables, firewall plate and pedals, clutch master cyl, and the driver's side trans mount. Axles might not be bad, but may be different. Mounts might be different too.

Do I have this right, the 282 needs to be from a W-body, not from a J, L, or N? That will be a problem. But the flywheel, what I meant is can you use a 2.2 flywheel or 3.1 flywheel?

I'm not that familiar with this 60 degree stuff, but I am tired of 4T60E's.

Well, the j-body 3.1 will bolt up to the motors, since they used the 3.1L, but the mounts, gearing, and intermediate shaft are different and will be difficult to get things to work properly
