3pt1lumina Posted January 11, 2009 Report Posted January 11, 2009 Temp gauge stopped working and I'm assuming it's the sender. It's my dad's Malibu but still has a 3100, so I'm assuming it's all the same in terms of location. Can someone post a pic with an arrow or just describe it to me in general where it is? And is it easy to change? Never done one before on a 3100...only on old school cars. Quote
Crazy K Posted January 11, 2009 Report Posted January 11, 2009 if it has a 3 wire, it is located below the the thermostat... if that sensor is a two wire, the gauge sender is on the drivers side rear head, with one green wire. Quote
3pt1lumina Posted January 11, 2009 Author Report Posted January 11, 2009 The sensor by the thermostat is a two wire. So on to the back head I go. One more question. When the gauge failed, the auxiliary fans started running. Now, whether the compressor is on or off, the fans are always running, as if the A/C was on. Am I still correct in my diagnosis that the temp gauge sender is the culprit, or do I go searching for something else? Quote
Crazy K Posted January 11, 2009 Report Posted January 11, 2009 if the fans are running full time, they are triggered by the ECM sender failing which is the sensor by the t-stat. I recommend replace ecm temp sensor AND T-stat. Quote
3pt1lumina Posted January 11, 2009 Author Report Posted January 11, 2009 Perfect, I will get on that this week. Thanks for the info, I'll let you know if all is well. Quote
