I had this symptom and replaced it with a used unit I had laying around. 300 miles later, the exact same thing happened, except I'm nowhere near home. Any ideas? It can, and will, cause an engine fire (been there, done that). There is a rumor you can plug the vacume line with something, and plug the FPR plug with something, and it will be ok. But I dont know if this is true, I dont know what affect it will have on the engine/car, and I dont know if it will work. Well folks, I sucked it up and bought a new FPR since we are having a snow storm at the moment and I'm nowhere near home. I have it installed, but had to stop for the night. It got dark and snow was getting into the intake Not to mention I dropped a bolt down there but a snake tool with a magnetic tip got that out. I will finish it up tomorrow and be on my way. ns87 Posted January 11, 2009 Author Report Share Posted January 11, 2009 Well I buttoned it up and primed the fuel pump to check for leaks. I have a really big one. I think it is b/c the FPR bracket is missing a bolt. One of them broke off in the old FPR. I'm tempted to call AAA and have my car towed and let someone else finish this mess. Its still really cold and snowy. Anyone think that missing screw causing that huge leak? All of the O-rings are good. The fuel rails look 100% secure and tight. I'm gonna warm up for a bit and head back out there see if I can figure it out. I don't know where I could find a new screw that size. Its one of those stupid hex screw. Its coming from the front fuel rail near the FPR. I'm sure it is something stupid like an o-ring not set properly. I had it towed to a shop and now it can be their problem for a little bit. I tagged and bagged all the bolts for them and told them they just need to install the FPR correctly. Hopefully won't be too much $$ in labor Its so cold outside I can't think properly. This situation is all too familiar: Yesterday... Hey, your car should be done soon. We replaced a couple o-rings that had torn. I'm just gonna put it all together. Give me a call in an hour and a half Sweet! Hour and a half later.... Oh I'm really sorry. I just had something come up. Give me 20 more minutes, I'm just about done I promise. Ok, I've run into unexpected things before. No biggie 20 minutes later..Mechanic won't come on the phone. Puts receptionist on Oh um, he replaced some O-rings. It might not be done today since we close in an hour. I asked to be called before closing to know if I can pick up my car. No call....I call them. Receptionist It's all back together, but I can't give it to you today. We want to keep it over night to make sure it starts in the cold and doesn't leak anything :question: An o-ring either works or it doesn't. I was mad, but either way she talked to me long enough to stall me until they closed I drove over there after they closed to see my car (and what they probably broke). My car was inside on a lift I need to leave my gfs today and drive 200 miles to school. I have a feeling I'm not going to be able to do that. I know this probably doesn't help now, but I did the plug method when I tested mine and found it to be leaking (This was a couple years ago.) on my Euro. I left it like that for about 4 months, and it ran absolutely fine, until I got my hands on a known good one. In reality, all it will be doing is running at full fuel pressure, and the ECM will just cut injecter pulse to lean it to what it needs.
