slick
I'd say if Borla's weren't too expensive, try them out. IMO, I'd just fit the longest resonator as possible. Should quiet it down a bit, itself.

mra32
regular 40's are a little on the loud side, but the Delta 40's are described by Flowmaster as having less interior resonance than the regular 40's. Based on some vids of the delta 40's on youtube, I can tell. Plus if by chance it's still too loud, I could always throw in a glasspack after the cat. First step is finding a set of Delta 40's for a good price, which is going to be tough. Brians setup on his white lumina is seriously loud. It was loud for me when I was driving behind him. Its an awesome tone nonetheless
Olds W31
IMO, I'd just fit the longest resonator as possible. Should quiet it down a bit, itself. Use the biggest case, turbo style if you want quiet. The larger the case, the lower the tone. Not all Magna flows sound like the vid posted. That would not have left the muffler shop if it were my car. I had a 3" in, dual 3" out on my Suburban. It was pure ... I would Magnaflow again, as the packing reduces interior resonance, due to the dampening effect on the standing wave that can be generated. You can endure/enjoy a louder exhaust if there is no resonance inside the car. I would want to try with just 3 resonators, 1 ahead of the rear suspension, and 1 each to replace the stock mufflers...of course, I used to drive an '89 ex police Caprice with Impala SS headers, no cats, no mufflers....talk about sweet sounding! Pipe all the way back to the bumper. At full throttle it was plainly obnoxious...but at idle or cruise...I miss that car.
Venom
This is ultimately the setup I want to put on my car this summer.
RobertISaar
ill probably catch hell for this: ive got a 2" cherry bomb on a 95 3100. the rest of the exhaust is all original and intact and i like it. its not loud until 4000+ rpm at wot. and cruising at 55 or 70+ doesnt make it drone. at the end of it is a matched size turndown. and all for about 25 bucks at my local meijer. sprayed it black because i didnt like cherry red. If your exhaust was anything like my original one ('95 3100) there's a factory resonator about midway between the catalyst and muffler, plus the factory cat absorbs a lot of sound as well. I have neither of those now, plus this exhaust piping I'm installing is 2.5" vs the 2" that the stock exhaust was.
w-bodys_are_the_best
I just put a magnaflow xl turbo muffler on my 96 PA, I know it's an L67, but it's really quiet, sounds about like the factory one starting to rot as far as loudness, but with a better, deeper tone. I didn't want it loud (3800's sound like shite IMO), at idle there is a very deep tone, it sounds better than stock under acceleration but not very loud. I ordered it from Summit, $55 and it's stainless so it will last as long as the car probably. If I didn't care how it sounded, I'd throw a glasspack on there and call it good. I still have the rest of the stock setup, cat and IIRC there's a resonator. My z24 has a piece of pipe where the cat goes, and a Thrush glasspack where the muffler should be, it sounds badass for a 3.1, but probably too loud for most people's taste. RobertISaar
there is a factory resonator exactly where yours was. im actually waiting for warm weather to cut the cat off and stick a glasspack in place of it. and from the numbers i got out of maximum boost, a 3100, and a stock one at that, wont benefit from a larger pipe. im sorry that was off topic, im tired and started spacing out. and im posting using a PSP. what were we talking about? 19Cutlass94
i have two 2.5" napa quiet flow mufflers I just took off my car. I searched for your posts last night because I wondered what was going on with your Dynomax mufflers. Which ones did you have, the ultraflows? They were straight-thru mufflers, right? What's the skinny on the napa mufflers? I had the ultra flow SS, they are a straight through muffler. I took em off my car cuz they were alittle loud, but i put em back on cuz I put a resonator on. The Queit flows I bought were to replace them for a little bit. They sounded really good though. The videos that I posted of the WOT vids, were with the quiet flows on there. I just wanted something louder cuz they were a little too quiet, so i put the Dynomax's back on. The NAPA mufflers are lifetime warranty though. MY cost on these napa mufflers were 60 each. Retail was MUCH more. I see, you must have bought the better Napa ones then! Are they turbo-style internally or something else? There basically like a turbo muffler in the internals. They sounded pretty good too.
lb79theone
I got a cherrybomb extreme muffler. It is the singlechambered 12'' muffler, pretty sweet. I am trying to get it on herebut the file, i guess, is too large! HOW DO I MAKE IT SMALLER?!

Brian P
During the forum downtime I picked up a pair of Dynomax Thrush chambered mufflers. The price was good at $42 w/ tax (locally). It's a simple 2-chamber design. We'll see I guess. If it's too loud, I can always return them immediately and grab the Dynomax turbo's.
