Brian P
Okay, so with this 2.5" mandrel bent exhaust I purchased thru the group-buy, I will install it to my existing 2.5" downpipe and 2.5" catco converter. I am rattling my brain out with what muffler setup to go with. What I need (in order of importance): - Relatively quiet, especially idle and cruising. - CHEAP (Low funds lately, I want to keep the purchase under $100 if I can) - Decent flowing (I guess "turbo style" is out?) I was thinking of the Dynomax chambered mufflers: http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=WLK-17656&N=700+4294922710+400358+4294891681+4294906131+4294906122+4294791974+4294791975+115&autoview=sku And adding a glasspack after the catalyst: http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=IMM-87522&N=700+4294922710+401524+4294906121+115&autoview=sku I was considering just running turbo-style cheapies a la: http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=WLK-17733&N=700+4294922710+400358+4294891681+4294906131+4294906122+4294791974+4294791975+115&autoview=sku But as you see, #1 they're getting up there in price, and #2 they have fiberglass deadening which doesn't last long. They may sound loud as hell/shitty after 20k miles or so (which is 9 mos of driving). I would just as soon try those Summit mufflers that Loudcut used, but again are they going to hold up longer than a year or what?? http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=SUM-630125&N=700+400304+4294922710+4294891681+4294906131+4294791975+4294906130+115&autoview=sku Magnaflow is out. I never liked their sound no matter what it was. Opinions??
Andrew
those Thrush chambered sound pretty good, much better than the super turbo IMO!(dynomax owns Thrush btw) http://www.thrushexhaust.com/products.html

Captain Ficho
Hooker Aerochambers http://video.google.com/videosearch?q=3500+grand+prix&emb=0&aq=f# If relatively quiet is what you are aiming for, Hooker Aerochambers are the way to go. It is what 99% of Grand National guys go with when replacing their stock ones, to avoid the gawdiness and loudness of Flowmasters or Magnaflows. Brian P
those Thrush chambered sound pretty good, much better than the super turbo IMO!(dynomax owns Thrush btw) http://www.thrushexhaust.com/products.html I tried finding some videos or sound clips of the thrush chambered but everything I hear, they seem LOUD. Sound wise, I'm really liking the Flowmaster 40 delta-flow, but they're $90 each!! Hooker Aerochambers http://video.google.com/videosearch?q=3500+grand+prix&emb=0&aq=f# I had those on my last exhaust. Way too loud, even after I added a big resonator to try to tame it. It got worse over time, and it came to the point that I grabbed a factory exhaust from a junkyard just to hold me over. They DO flow great, however. The odd thing about it is that I have an Aerochamber cat-back on my '00 Camaro, and it is rather quiet overall. I don't understand how the pair that I had on my Olds was so ridiculous. They were maybe 5 years old.
pwmin
Magnaflow is out. I never liked their sound no matter what it was. Opinions?? opinion? you're too picky, Brain I know IMCO is very similar to Flowmaster, but IDK if they have one similar to the Delta Flow (i.e. quieter...maybe the "Elite" series). I will always go for Magnaflow on V6; I can't see how you don't like the sound, but that's moot. I have an aero chamber on my camaro and imco on the blazer (both 3" single) and both sound decent. The new truck is getting magnaflow...i just like the straight-through better than all the restrictive chambers http://www.grabthepower.com/mufflers-front.asp
xtremerevolution
I've got a Magnaflow on my regal. I should take a video of it some time so you guys can hear it.
98montels
I'm going with magnaflow on the northstar monte, IMO they sound reall nice and clean no loud pops after you rev and what not. Plus it will be better than what I have now and that's straight pipes with side exit's. Sure it's loud and all but I dont want to sound like the race track at 2 in the morning in my neighborhood lol. mra32
I have this on my 3.1 with otherwise stock exhaust: http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=SUM-633222&N=700+4294923429+400304+4294922711+115&autoview=sku http://s318.photobucket.com/albums/mm432/dieslowlymf/?action=view¤t=MVI_1568.flv I think they sound pretty damn good, but i have heard better that ahieva with dual 40's is pretty awesome too. There is a tiny bit of drone at a certain rpm, but i wouldnt say that its too bad, music can cover it up

I'm not too worried on that. Turbo-style mufflers can be either "okay" or no better than stock from what I have heard. I think I might have no other choice than to go with this. Flowmaster's prices really suck. They were never this high. I guess all that advertising money has to come from somewhere... And magnaflow.... they basically neuter the sound and it all just becomes one droning low-note (it gets close to the "brown noise" so watch out). It might be alright for the 3.8 but every twin cam I've heard with them sounds awful. It doesn't even come close to letting the "good tone" out on 60V6's. Where can I buy IMCO's? That's the first time I ever heard of them.

White93z34
I have some "v force" mufflers on my z34, I LOVE the sound. however I also have a glasspack resonator of some sort in there to keep it tame. Slick would know more about the setup since it is from his old car!

I searched for your posts last night because I wondered what was going on with your Dynomax mufflers. Which ones did you have, the ultraflows? They were straight-thru mufflers, right? What's the skinny on the napa mufflers?

I want to chuck it when I install the new system, though.

I've bought quite a few magnaflows from there and they've always had good customer service and about the cheapest prices.

What's the skinny on the napa mufflers? I had the ultra flow SS, they are a straight through muffler. I took em off my car cuz they were alittle loud, but i put em back on cuz I put a resonator on. The Queit flows I bought were to replace them for a little bit. They sounded really good though. The videos that I posted of the WOT vids, were with the quiet flows on there. I just wanted something louder cuz they were a little too quiet, so i put the Dynomax's back on. The NAPA mufflers are lifetime warranty though. MY cost on these napa mufflers were 60 each. Retail was MUCH more.

That is the shit!! yeah it is, but its like 3953859 times too loud for brian p regular 40's are a little on the loud side, but the Delta 40's are described by Flowmaster as having less interior resonance than the regular 40's. Based on some vids of the delta 40's on youtube, I can tell. Plus if by chance it's still too loud, I could always throw in a glasspack after the cat. First step is finding a set of Delta 40's for a good price, which is going to be tough.
