92turboLE Posted August 21, 2003 Report Posted August 21, 2003 i know a little bit ago there was a link to a vid of a 10 second GP. if you looked at the pictures on the site, the entire subframe/engine craddel was all aluminum. I wonder how hardf and at what cost o could built a reinforced aluminum subframe like that - also the wieght difference between em. any thaughts/ideas? If i invested the time and money to do this for my car, would there be any other intrest in one, since im sure it will take a long time to do and i dont want all that work to go to waist by taking all that time for just one car. - Justin Quote
LukeZ34 Posted August 21, 2003 Report Posted August 21, 2003 They come stock on the newer Monte's and impala's I'm sure. Probably other W-bodies as well.. I know my buddies Alero has an aluminum subframe as well. Quote
RomeoZ34 Posted August 21, 2003 Report Posted August 21, 2003 Find some weight difference numbers, if its more than a hundred pounds, and it is reasonably inexpensive, I'd be down. Quote
patgizz Posted August 21, 2003 Report Posted August 21, 2003 it can't be more than 100# because our stock cradles don't weigh much to begin with. in fact i think i have one to weigh. Quote
90TGP Posted August 22, 2003 Report Posted August 22, 2003 A couple guys asked the same question on ClubGP. It's only like a 20-25lb difference between the steel and aluminum subframes. http://www.clubgp.com/newforum/tm.asp?m=778714&appid=&p=&mpage=1&key=aluminum%2Csubframe&language=single&tmode=&smode=&s=#778714 Quote
