2002ls1z
Today I checked the fluids in my car and everything was fine. However, I noticed a little bit of fresh coolant (a few small drops) near what looks like it could be the starter (I know nothing about w-bodies so I may be wrong). I drove it 180 miles today to my parents and had no problems, car ran great. I had a coolant flush a week ago. Also, when it's parked no coolant leaks onto the ground. Is this the LIM leak everyone talks about? If so how serious, how much to fix?
MonteCarloChick
LIM could cost anywhere from $400 -$800 depending on where you go. I had mine done for $500. Or you could do it yourself. I did them on a 3100 Corsica and it wasn't bad at all.. except for the fuel injectors I busted Oh and what do you drive?? Motor? MonteCarloChick
If you can't diagnose it yourself you might want to get it pressure tested to see exactly what and where the leak is coming from
BIGBULS
I would almost guarantee it's the LIM gasket leaking externally.........usually a larger leak pools in that little divot right above the starter where the block meets the bellhousing. Yup, thats the place they tend to leak down upon

Yup, thats the place they tend to leak down upon That's exactly where I saw the coolant. How serious is this? Should I be worried about driving it or do I just need to keep an eye on the coolant until I can get it fixed?
4door Intl
I've heard a lot about this LIM leak from this forum, does it affect the 89-93 3.1's as well? I got the impression that the problem didn't arise until after GM changed the intakes and gasket material when it became the 3100.

No matter what.. you'll want to get it fixed pretty quickly.

I got the impression that the problem didn't arise until after GM changed the intakes and gasket material when it became the 3100. It will eventually happen on a 3.1 MPFI car, but not usually until they're way on up in mileage. On my 1993 Grand Prix, the intake gasket started leaking externally after 10yrs + 230,000 miles. 2002ls1z
I'm having it fixed tommorrow. While it's torn apart i'm going to have new plugs, wires and pvc installed also. Out the door cost was $800 at Firestone.
