dodgethis
Just as the subject states. I got the new shoes on, but i cannot get the drum back over it. I have moved the star wheel as small as it can get and the damn drum still wont go back on. I have even tried the old drum to see if i might have got the wrong kind but no go.. what yall think? bigjoeford
I ran in to this a few times. make sure the adjusters are broken free so u can push the shoestogether so u can get the drum back on. I also would recommend getting a new hardware kit it makes life alot easier
dodgethis
bigjoeford Thanks for your reply man i appreciate it. I am going to take the adjuster screw out and just put the shoes on to see it makes a difference and go from there. I do have on critical question to ask you. Did you have the parking brake lever under the parking brake shoe or was it sitting on top of the shoe? I ask this because when i put things back to together i play hell trying to get that damn parking brake cable from touching the axle. I can hear it grind on the cable when i spin the axle around. I havent messed with the slack on the cable so i wondered if i need to put the parking brake lever under the shoe or if thats even possible
1990lumina
It should go back the way you took it apart. Make sure the shoes are squared up proerply (one isn't haging lower, etc)...and put the drum on. If everything is fitting right it WILL go back on. It is possible someone sold you the wrong shoes too, but I'd assume you matched them up to the old ones before dsiassembling everything? 98montels
I have had someone helping me with myn that said they knew what they where doing and didn't. Long story short he had something to do with the self adjusters in backwards and the drum was a hell of a time to get on there. On a side note, If I go outside right now and take my tires off my drums will just slide right off. With no hammering or anything, is that normal because evrey drum I have seen being taken off took some effort.
1990lumina
There should be some drag when you spin the wheel in the air - but not much. The drums are most likely coming off nice now because you've got them off already once. Most of the time you see ppl beating the shit out of them because they are seized one from nothing being apart for 10 years..

If I raise the car up and spin the rear tire it will come to a stop after a second or two, you can here the shoe's inside touching the drum slightly. srry for the thread hijack
1990lumina
That might be a tad tight but should be okay. Dragging brakes just hurts mileage a bit.
