dodgethis Posted December 21, 2008 Report Posted December 21, 2008 Hey guys about to work on my drums. I bought some new drums and shoes and about to replace them on the 98 lumina. I was gonna ask this, side from everyones tips and opinions. When i break into my drum, do I have to bleed it? I thought i could crack them open replace the shoes and that be it basically? Quote
Night Fury Posted December 21, 2008 Report Posted December 21, 2008 As long as you keep the cylinder intact, you are good to go! Quote
1990lumina Posted December 21, 2008 Report Posted December 21, 2008 You don't have to bleed anything if just replacing the shoes. If you get in there and find the wheel cylinder is leaking and you end up replacing it - then you must be bleed. Quote
dodgethis Posted December 21, 2008 Author Report Posted December 21, 2008 Well the Brake cylinder on these cars is at 12:00p. So as along as i dont touch them and just pull off the springs, etc. I can get away with changing the shoes correct? Quote

I am just making sure, someone who had done it on Volks wagon said they had to bleed them. I know they are not the same car but we were talking about drums, and I for one have never do it before so I was trying to get prepared for the worst Quote
dodgethis Posted December 21, 2008 Author Report Posted December 21, 2008 Yes. You'll be just fine. beautiful, we will see how this goes. Might do a write up, since i dont see one. I love to hear what Iron Dog has to say about it Quote
dodgethis Posted December 21, 2008 Author Report Posted December 21, 2008 Ok guys, I am having an issue. I have got one side of the shoe on but i cannot get the other side one that hooks in with the emergency brake. Am I supposed to disconnect the emergency brake cable from the arm and then put everthing together and hook it up last? It is being the biggest bitch trying to get everything hooked in together because of the damn emergency cable. I can understand why its a problem doing drums. Its not the work taking it apart, but putting it back together is the hardest thing to do. Quote
dodgethis Posted December 22, 2008 Author Report Posted December 22, 2008 OK I got both sides on the drum. I will have to take it apart again because the emergency brake cable isnt seated behind the dimple indentation behind the primary shoe. Jesus tap dancing christ lol I swear I cannot wait to get this done. Quote
dodgethis Posted December 22, 2008 Author Report Posted December 22, 2008 This is what the drum looked at before. (top picture) And the drum after (bottom Picture) Any idea on how I can deal with that damn emergency cable? I have played hell trying to get it to seat right. Quote
