iowabob Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 A month ago one morning my Lumina would not start, it would turn over but no run. Came home after work and it started. Ran fine for 3 weeks left work to come home i has the same problem. Checked the fuel rail for gas and there was none. Kept trying to start and on the fifth time it started. Replaced the fuel pump relay and 1 week later same problem, same checks and it did start. Before I get caught and have to have it towed, I am thinking of pulling the tank and replacing the fuel pump. My question is " Do I have to replace the whole assembly or can I just replace the pump?". I changed the pump in my 1993 Lumina, but every place only seems to sell the whole assembly. Do i have any other options? PS The car has 131K miles on it. Quote
Andrew Posted December 20, 2008 Report Posted December 20, 2008 you can replace just the pump. however, in my experience doing so, the sending unit will fail shortly after from being handled. so i'd just replace the whole thing. Quote
