swift13 Posted December 16, 2008 Report Posted December 16, 2008 i turn my wipers on like normal and when i turned them off they stayed up instead of tucking into the cowl (98 GTP) How do i fix this problem?? any help would be great thanks in advance. i know this has happened to other people but i never got a real fix remark from anyone and it just happened to me so this sucks Quote
5speedz34 Posted December 16, 2008 Report Posted December 16, 2008 This is a common problem on second-gens. My buddy has a '97 and his had a recall. He said its something within the linkage is a weak metal and bends causing the wipers to stay up. Wish I had more information for you. Quote
swift13 Posted December 16, 2008 Author Report Posted December 16, 2008 well they still work its just when you turn them off they go up like a field goal instead of down into the cowl. were your friends still working or just broke in the up position?? im thinking maybe a short or a reversal of polarity or something but i am unsure how to fix with the simplest solution Quote
Night Fury Posted December 16, 2008 Report Posted December 16, 2008 I see a lot driving around town like that and I'm all like "Dubya Tee Eff?!" Quote

Regal_GS_1989 Posted December 16, 2008 Report Posted December 16, 2008 Its not just a second gen problem. I see tons of U vans and j bodies driving around like that too. Here is some info about the issue. http://en.allexperts.com/q/Oldsmobile-Buick-Repair-826/windshield-wipers-parking-straight-1.htm Quote
5speedz34 Posted December 16, 2008 Report Posted December 16, 2008 I guess I should've said its a newer GM problem. Quote
4door Intl Posted December 16, 2008 Report Posted December 16, 2008 Whenever i see goalpost wipers it's usually on a Pontiac Montana minivan. Quote
runt Posted December 16, 2008 Report Posted December 16, 2008 Make sure there is no snow/ice near the cowl. Sometimes if I don't clear that area out well enough my wipers stick like that. Once I clear the snow they go back down. Stupid, yes. Simple. YES! Quote
5speedz34 Posted December 16, 2008 Report Posted December 16, 2008 That's what I've been told the issue is. The wipers get jammed in the cowl with snow causing the piece that I was talking about to bend. Quote
swift13 Posted December 17, 2008 Author Report Posted December 17, 2008 there was no snow in the cowl But when it happened yesterday i turned them on and turned the car off while they were in the down position and pulled the fuse. today i needed them and put the fuse back in and They worked the right way and tucked back in when i shut them off. so maybe it was a reversal or something but killing the power set it right I dunno and i dont care as long as they work Thanks for all the info. LuminaPower92 Posted December 17, 2008 Report Posted December 17, 2008 Hmm I kinda got the same problem, was thinking it was the transmission. BTW the new civics have the same wiper set up as first gen w's. Quote
ron350 Posted December 17, 2008 Report Posted December 17, 2008 Here is a picture. http://www.oqcgp.com/forum/kb.php?mode=article&k=79 It would be nice is someone did a step by step article with pictures about replacing or repairing those parts. Quote
