cardude43
Does anybody have suggestions for air intake systems for the 3.4 DOHC? I know that rsmracing and mandsproductions makes kits. But does anyone know of anymore and if so how well did it work on your car. Also if you remember or know how much it cost that would help. hoodilio
You could buy your own mandrel bent pipe and drill the proper holes, 45 degree bend should be good, then buy a cone filter (try the new Kool Blue filters by Accel)
phantomFE3
for a while i just hooked up a K&N cone filter to the end of the air intake tube on my car and that worked pretty good untill i finally got around makeing a PVC one, and then i wrapped it in steel repair tape to keep the heat out, it doesnt look too bad i say... heres a pic
Mike J.
The stock air box really isn't a bad design (unlike the TGP design) but it can use a little cutting and modifying especially with a DOHC. IMO just drop in a K&N and remove the cone insert at the very front which just slips out by hand or at least make sure its not scrunched partially closed like mine was on my DOHC. You can tune the decibal coming out of it by cutting the tube inside the air box a little at a time. This tube is for the purpose of reducing dcb's but also forces the air to flow accross only a small portion of the filter. I am pretty sure a k&n pleats run with the grain of air flow which helps channel the air to a larger portion vs cross grain for stock and wont slow down air flow either. With the stock air box you also have a heat insulated air path with access to cool/cold air.
jeffcanada
I definitely agree with the previous post. On the 3.4L DOHC the best bet is to mod (cut) the stock air box and drop in a K&N panel filter. The engine runs extremely hot and an open cone filter will kill performance, not enhance it. I cut out the battery side of my box with a 3" circle bit (used for doors), and I get slightly cooler air, and a nice ripping tone.
