3pt1lumina
I have to do a waterpump on my dad's Malibu. I am assuming it's the same as doing one on a W. I'm also assuming it's self explanatory how to R&I it. Here's the question, how do I bleed the system of all of the air? I've never ever done a waterpump on any new car at all, just small block Chevy's. 3100 in an 01 Malibu, but same engine as our cars so that's why I put it here. Mods feel free to move this to other cars if you want to.
ismellrealbad
http://www.drivewerks.com/catalog/shopcart/TOOL/POR_TOOL_CAT591_pg2.htm That is how you properly bleed a system. fuck all these stupid proceedures and bullshit everyone tells you. fuck bleeder screws and messes. 1) fill system with that funnel attached 2) run car till up to temp and bubbles stop escaping 3)plug funnel, remove with excess and pour excess into overflow tank TADA! thats it. bullshit free air free coolant fill

GOT2B GM
open coolant reservoir Drain coolant via drain cock on the front of the rad , drivers side with a 1/4" ratchet Remove serp belt Use a pair of pliers or a band wrench to hold the water pump pulley from spinning as you remove the 4 pulley bolts You may have to tap pulley off as it tends to stick a bit on the water pump shaft remove 5 water pump bolts, and remove pump from housing ( may requiring tapping to remove again) clean gasket mating surface reverse steps. Remove bleeder screw from front coolant pipe by water pump housing while refilling until coolant comes out of bleeder. Then close it. FWIW Just did the water pump in my girlfriends 00 Alero GLS 3400 last week, its about as easy as it gets.
5speedz34
I wouldn't drain all the coolant unless it hasn't been changed/flushed in a long time. I would just let it pour out when you pop the pump off, although this would help with not getting coolant all over your accessories.
GOT2B GM
If you drain the coolant into a pan, you have less waste, and less mess. Just pour it all back in and call it good. Especially if the coolant's not that old, just re use it.

That funnel has to have the screw on adapter if so.
3pt1lumina
It seems very easy. I just wanted to make sure it was as easy as it looked. Thanks! It's supposed to be 50* here on Sunday so that's when I'll probably do it. I will get new coolant since the coolant in there is from 50k and it has 104k on the car now. It's cheap enough...infact I may still have some around from when I put the motor in my Laguna.
5speedz34
You're not worried about picking up contaminants as the coolant drains out the radiator?
GOT2B GM
You're not worried about picking up contaminants as the coolant drains out the radiator? nope, its not lubricating any moving parts. A piece of grit here or there won't hurt anything.
mfewtrail
nope, its not lubricating any moving parts. A piece of grit here or there won't hurt anything. I filter coolant I'm going to reuse from my drain pan with a very fine strainer(some type of kitchen strainer w/ very fine mesh) to remove any pieces of gasket material, etc. that may fall into the pan.
