Scottster
This thread has not real point beyond the fact that I'd like to announce how toasty I am in my GP now after replacing the theomostat with a 197* Prestone "premium" or whatever T-stat. $20 bucks + the gasket at Canadian Tire and 10 minutes hogging a bay at a coin-op to stay out of the snow and I'm finally warm inside my car. The old one wouldn't bring the temp needle barely above the first line on the dial, and I had replaced it only two years ago after I bought the car. Apparently it was set much lower than 200 degrees, because it still worked fine, just not in the right temp zone. So yeah, carry on... 5speedz34
What is operating temp for these cars?
3pt1lumina
Having heat in the winter is so nice. I remember the days of no heat in the 90...

5speedz34
195* That's when its set to open. What is it at once its open?
Scottster
195* That's when its set to open. What is it at once its open? Even with the new 'stat the needle doesn't get to the half-point on the dial, rather hovers around the 4th dash. It can settle whereever the hell it wants to for all I care now...as long as she's pumpin out good BTU's I'm happy.
Addicted To Boost
My TGP likes to run at about 204*F cruising. The highest it ever gets is 219*F with heavy acceleration on a hot day.

I'm assuming that come summer, mine will run warmer too.

Scottster
Shit, runnning bumper less is making my car uber cold! I had cardboard infront of my rad the first winter I had the car, and frankly it didn't really do much if I remember right. My dad said his '90 Cutlass 3.1 he had back when it was new didn't make heat worth a damn too, so I just assumed it was a trait of these cars. F-that. I've got heat now dad. 5speedz34
I swear my mind does not connect to my hands when I type. When I'm on the highway is what I meant.
Brian P
the thermostat I just changed last week would open at 106°C (222°F) and maintain temp at 99-100°C (212°F). New one opens at 96°C (204°F) and maintains 94°C (201°F).
