5speedz34 Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 Turn the key this morning, all accessories come on, pump primes, turn key nothing. Not a click or attempt at all. Thoughts? New: Battery, cables, aux post, starter, alt, all grounds have been cleaned. The security light wasn't flashing so I think that knocks VATS as a possibility. In the past month or so its had longer starts. I don't know if the starter is trash or what, but that's what I'm leaning toward. EDIT: I popped the hood and briefly checked the connections on the aux. post, neg, and positive cables. I didn't have time to do anything else since I was going to class. Quote
White93z34 Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 try running the gear shift through the positions or starting in neutral. also make sure the key is fully pushed in, my Bonneville will do that if the key is not pushed all the way in Quote
GOT2B GM Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 Park neutral switch, or starter solenoid. Quote
GP1138 Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 Did you smack the starter with a hammer? Quote
Captain Ficho Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 Starter has done that to me twice before, I'm almost positive that's your problem. Quote
Crazy K Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 the vats doesn't have to be flashing. stick your key in the ignition, turn the key to run, and wait ten seconds. has the security light turned off? and is it on during the self check? Quote
5speedz34 Posted December 4, 2008 Author Report Posted December 4, 2008 I really didn't have anytime to diagnose it since I was on my way to class. I'll mess with it tomorrow sometime. I just hope its not the starter, I just put it on in February, I don't see why it would be bad again. IIRC-The car wouldn't start in neutral before, so maybe it is the switch. Is there a way to test it? EDIT: I'm really thinking it might be something with the neutral safety switch/gear shift. I have a 2nd Gen Regal shifter on their now and I know it hasn't been perfect. Also, my oil pump drive o-ring used to leak real bad and that switch is right below is (relatively). HMMMM!!! Quote
ismellrealbad Posted December 5, 2008 Report Posted December 5, 2008 i know i always keep telling people this, but you can use a screwdriver to jump the starter just to test it real quick. i think its the p/n switch too. I thought you were getting rid of the prix after that balljoint incident? or was that not you? If so im glad you still have it Quote

Crazy K Posted December 5, 2008 Report Posted December 5, 2008 TONY. go to PG and get a NSS from a 1995+ w-body. in fact get two or three, and open it up. (T15 torx iirc) if the contacts are not worn, grease it and use it in your car. the 95+ runs LESS current through the circuit and thus avaois frying the switch as often.q Quote
ismellrealbad Posted December 5, 2008 Report Posted December 5, 2008 It sat in my driveway for 6 months. welcome to my world, except x that by ummmm 4? now its rotting on my friends driveway 30 mins from here Quote

I spliced both types onto my '96 harness since I had initially used the old '95 tranny and switch. Quote
