Raising the Rev Limiter LQ1 first Gen. motor

92supreme

Recommended Posts

I have a 92 supreme with the early version LQ1 3.4L dohc. I have come to find myself really disappointed  with the rev limiter to be about 2800 to 3100 rpms. this isn't very good to show off the exhuast system. Does anybody know what has to be done to raise this? Maybe Computer chip from summit?

Who are you "showing off" too? This engine is pretty raspy, and the best way is at WOT will accelerating.

IIRC, the only time in neutral it should rev is >25 mph.

10'' glass in place of cat. no mufflers 3'' slaint tips. still the same in N. cuts fuel at about 3100 ish. way to loud when driving. will go all the way to 6500 when over 25mph. sounds great at that high rpm.

should I invest in the msd 6AL box?

Being the pcm is seeing vehicle speed and engine rpm and cutting fuel a msd ignition box wouldn't change the foel cut off. wich is why I thought a chip from summit would.

I'll just repeat what others have said.

Get a chip from WOT-Tech. Their chip is the ONLY one that will make ANY powergains (Hypertech, Jet, Superchips and Fastchip all dynoed at a LESS than 1whp gain on an independent dyno test that was done years ago by Aaron Lephart on his LQ1 auto), AND Ben Phelps (the guy that runs WOT-Tech) can program whatever Park/Neutral and in-gear rev limiter you want (up to 7150rpm where the fuel tables stop), AND can play with shiftpoints for you too (although it's BEST to not go too crazy on an older 60-E).

Long story short...........go here for a chip: http://wot-tech.com/shop/

Does 60degreev6 sell this guy's chips, because I know they can mess with rev limiter, shift points, and the like at your will.

Ben Phelps is the proprietor of both 60degreev6 and WOT-tec

noice. Ben's chips make the others just about as good as a dorrito on your floor board. i say that, and the cam timing mod, the p&p'd lower intake and the tapered tb kept my car close to stock auto times past 150k miles.

Kinda off topic, but I've never beat on my vehicles, though I open 'em up once in awhile cuz it's healthy for them. But in my '92 Z, which is the only car I've had the 3.4 in, I just love to mash on that thing, occasionally. Not only does she pull like mad in that 4ish+up powerband, its the only time my current exhaust sounds any good on it; actually it sounds really good in the higher RPMs. :burnout: Anyone else feel this way? :high5:

I really don't want to start getting into major engine/drivetrain mods again. Went through that phase back in my gear head days. Prefer spending my money on show rather go these days, but a little more performance, without going crazy, wouldn't be bad. A chip sounds like the hot lash :burnout: What kind of money are we talking?
